• Milwaukee Day #2 + New York Day #1

    14 de octubre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 1 °C

    My first time in Milwaukee!

I didn’t have a whole lot of time in this lovely city, but I did manage to catch some highlights: in the morning I stopped by the beautiful art musem by the waterfront where I had a walk around.

I then saw the Fonzie statue, another local landmark, and made my way to The Rave Club, an incredible music venue that has hosted many artists and shows over the years.

The Rave has a rich history; the landmark venue opened in 1927 and originally housed a social justice organisation that has had several US presidents in their membership roster. Very interesting place.

After some more exploring, I had a great lunch at an amazing quaint Italian restaurant in the outskirts of the city. I also saw Miller Park, the local baseball stadion, and the nearby Miller breweries that produces the popular Miller range of beers.

After a wonderful day in Milwaukee, I left for the airport for my flight to New York City. After arriving and travelling to my hotel, it was pretty late so I just had a quick walk around and then ended the evening with dinner at Red Lobster.

  • Chicago Day #4 + Milwaukee Day #1

    13 de octubre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

    Another busy day 😀

Around 10 am I made my way to the final day of the Ace Comic Con, held at a huge convention center just across from my hotel in Rosemont (outside of Chicago).

It was a bit more quiet at the con today, at least in the beginning of the day, so I started by walking around the show floor, making sure to see everything. The con is not as big as some of the others I've been to, so it didn't take terribly long to get around everywhere.

Around noon, I attended the first panel of the day - with Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones; Jon Snow himself. I have not watched the show yet myself, actually, but I know his character was popular, and Kit is very much a well-liked and respected actor. His panel was definitely fun and interesting, even without knowing much about 'Thrones.

Later in the day, I attended another panel - with the stars of the new Netflix show, "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" - a remake of the story of Sabrina, the teenage witch. Again, it's not a show I've really watched, but the young actors made it a fun panel.

While standing in a photo op line, I also watched a panel with Chris Hemsworth - the god of Thunder himself who plays Thor in the Marvel films, among many other roles in his career. He was great and very funny - so I'm glad I didn't miss the panel even though I couldn't be in the room itself.

My final task at the comic con was getting a photo with Brie Larson who plays Captain Marvel in the movie of the same name. She also nabbed the Best Actress Oscar for her starring role in "Room" a few years back. It was nice to get a photo with her, at her first comic con, even though the process was delayed by an hour.

Due to the delay, I missed my train that afternoon from Union Station in Downtown Chicago to my next stop Milwaukee, by just a few minutes. So instead I had to book a Greyhound Bus that left two hours later. To kill the time I had some dinner at a local restaurant, and then eventually made my way to the bus terminal.

The bus ride itself was fairly comfortable and didn't end up taking much longer than the train would have. However, since I got into Milwaukee later than expected, I had to hurry quite a bit to make my next stop - a concert with the band Disturbed 🤘

I have seen them live before, most recently in Copenhagen this year, but it was such a great experience that I really wanted to see them again, and it made good sense when I was going to Milwaukee anyway to catch them on the last stop of their world tour.

The show itself was amazing once again - they are not only an incredible band, but they also make such an effort to help people who suffer from illnesses such as depression and addiction.

Despite the delay getting into Milwaukee, I only missed a little bit of the show which was nice.

  • Chicago Day #3

    12 de octubre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

This day was mainly spent at the Ace Comic Con, where I started off with a panel with Gwendoline Christie, an actress who has worked on Game of Thrones, Star Wars and The Hunger Games, among many other roles. She was a very interesting person to listen to, and it was fun to hear more about her work.

I also caught a panel later in the day with Norman Reedus, an actor who is particularly known for his work on the popular show, "The Walking Dead".

And finally I saw a panel with Tessa Thompson and Brie Larson, both of whom have also worked in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brie played Captain Marvel in the movie of the same name, and Tessa played the character Valkyrie in Marvel's universe. She's also done the "Creed" movies with Sylvester Stallone, and the popular show "Westworld". So lots of interesting things to talk about!

Before leaving Ace for the day, I was meant to see a panel with the new Spiderman, Tom Holland, and Jake Gyllenhall, who plays the villain in the latest Spiderman film, but he's also done a ton of other roles over the years. The panel was running late though, so I had to skip it, to catch a train back into the city for a concert with upcoming artist Dermot Kennedy. He's a very talented musician with a gifted voice, so it was great to see him live. Nice venue as well, close to the Aragon Ballroom where Nirvana played back in 1993!

  • Chicago Day #2

    11 de octubre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

I spent my first full day in Chicago doing some various sightseeing and exploration around the Windy City (it lived up to that name, btw).

My first stop was a location a bit outside the city, in a bit of a shady neighborhood! I wanted to see some of the places used on a popular TV series called "Shameless" which is set in the outskirts of Chicago. The main house used on the show is used in a lot of scenes, so it was fun to see that place in person.

After that I went to a pizza place to have an authentic deep-dish pizza, something of a Chicago "must do". The pizza was indeed quite good so I enjoyed trying that experience.

Next up was another very touristy Chicago landmark - the world-famous Sears Tower, now officially called Willis Tower. It was the tallest building in the US until the new Freedom Tower in NYC surpassed it a few years ago.

Unfortunately, the usually impressive view from the top of the Willis Tower was not super impressive on this day, since the weather was terrible, and visibility was very limited. But still a fun experience and still great views.

After Willis, I went to Navy Pier - another popular tourist attraction in Chicago. Again, the weather was pretty bad, and it's mostly the type of attraction that works best when it's sunny, warm and nice. There's a big Ferris wheel there, and various other rides, but they were closed due to the weather conditions. Still, a nice place in Chicago that was fun to see.

Before leaving the city for the day, I had an early dinner at a restaurant that mostly serves seafood, so I had garlic shrimp which was delicious.

When I got back to Rosemont, which is actually about an hour outside of Chicago where my hotel is, I went to the first day of the Ace comic con which takes place at a huge convention center in Rosemont. I had a photo shoot in the evening with one Chris Hemsworth, an actor very well-known for playing Thor in the Marvel movies.

I will be returning to Ace in the next two days!

Speaking of Ferris, after returning to the hotel I watched one of my favorite films, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", which takes place in Chicago, including some of the places I saw earlier in the day.

    Overall a great day! 😀

  • Chicago Day #1

    10 de octubre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

This morning I left Copenhagen for a direct flight to Toronto, where I had a layover before my final flight to Chicago in the US. Unfortunately, my flight bound for Chicago was ultimately delayed by over an hour, and I already had a relatively long layover in Toronto, so it ended up being a longer Canadian visit than I had anticipated.

Fortunately, the flight to Chicago was pretty short, and I finally arrived at my hotel in the evening.

It will be fun to begin exploring the city with some sightseeing tomorrow!

  • Bangkok Day 2

    5 de marzo de 2019, Tailandia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

My first time in Bangkok. Quite a chaotic city with lots of people, cars and motorbikes everywhere.

I started the day in a fairly mellow way though: hanging out by the pool! I don’t know when I will get a chance to do that again in 30+ degrees so I wanted to make the most of it.

After leaving my hotel I went for a walk in the lovely Lumphini Park. Yup, there really is a park in this city and there were barely any people there.

I then visited several of the HUGE shopping malls in the city. At least four of them are all in the same area, side by side. They are generally extremely luxurious and with all the top brands, like Gucci, Chanel and our very own Bang & Olufson. It was fun to browse these enormous and super fancy Dubai-ish malls.

Following lunch I checked out the Sea-Life aquarium and Madame Tussauds - both located inside malls of course. The aquarium was impressive and definitely one of the better I’ve seen, while the Tussauds experience was a bit short. They had a fun 4D movie though.

I also visited Bangkok’s Hard Rock Café - another one for my collection. The café itself was a bit small though so I didn’t eat there this time around.

After spending more time at the biggest and most impressive of the malls, Siam Paragon, I had some time to kill so I thought I would check out one of the movie theatres here. I saw the movie “The Upside” - a remake of a french film from a few years back. Both the original and the US remake are really good, and the movie theater was nice. Before the movie started, they showed a short film about Thailand’s king and everyone had to stand up. Pretty interesting. The King is extremely important to the Thai people.

Now it’s time to go back to the airport for my 12-hour flight back home!

  • Koh Samui Day 6 + Bangkok Day 1

    4 de marzo de 2019, Tailandia ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

Last day in Koh Samui. Following breakfast and hanging out at my villa for a couple of hours, I made the trip back to the airport with the hotel’s car.

Samui airport is quite unique. Most of it has an open air layout and it’s actually really nice and pleasant. They even provided free drinks (coffee, tea, juice) and snacks, such as popcorn and a delicious watermelon cake. Definitely one of the best airports I’ve visited!

From Samui I took a short flight to Bangkok and arrived late in the afternoon. First impression of the capital city: chaotic! So many cars and motorbikes everywhere. Traffic is crazy.

After checking into my hotel, another Conrad, I went out for a short walk and ended up at another luxury hotel where they had an impressive buffet with a lot of different selections. I don’t think I need to eat again for the rest of the week..

Tomorrow I have the whole day for sightseeing in Bangkok before the long flight back home 🙀✈️

  • Koh Samui Day 5

    3 de marzo de 2019, Tailandia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Another fairly quiet day in paradise.

I started the day by munching once again on the delicious breakfast buffet at Zest. I’m normally not much of a breakfast person but when there are so many yum things to choose from, it’s hard to resist. They even have a smoothie station where they make fresh smoothies and fruit juices.

Following breakfast I spent some time by my pool - I might as well spend as much quality time as possible in this fancy villa in one of the best hotels in the world! It feels like an adventure being in a 5-star resort like this where everything is perfect. I’m quite happy I was able to save up enough Hilton points for 5 ‘free’ nights since a room is usually $1,000 per night or so.

The hotel offers a free boat excursion to a nearby island so I did that over the afternoon. The speedboat ride was fairly short but very nice, and the island where we had about an hour to spend was also lovely. There were pigs (or some derivation!) roaming about on the beach which was cute. 🐷

On the ride back we passed by the hotel and got some great photos from the sea side where you can really see how they built this thing into the hill. Very impressive. I even spotted my own villa!

Before dinner I went up on the 4th level to Aura, a small outdoor lounge/bar next to Jahn which is their premier award-winning restaurant. The sunset was also stunning from up there.

Jahn is a bit too pricey so I went back down to Azure on the 1st level for their amazing pizza. Great way to end my final evening in Koh Samui 🏝

  • Koh Samui Day 4

    2 de marzo de 2019, Tailandia ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

Very quiet day today. No plans for once!

I spent most of the day just relaxing at my villa, hanging out by the pool, and getting some sun. It’s still very warm here - at least 30 degrees - and I have still not seen a drop of rain on my trip. Even at night the temperature is comfortable and warm.

I had dinner at Zest restaurant again which was good, and their Pina Colada is not too bad either!

It turns out there is a wedding here today, and the reception is being held just below the Zest restaurant so I caught a glimpse of the festivities 💃
