    February 22, 2019 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 30 °C

So after a ten hour flight from Copenhagen, I made it into Krabi in Thailand (very) early this morning.

It took a while to get through immigration at the airport, which is not uncommon, and my airport transfer guy was a bit weird. But I made it to the hotel around 7 am, and was able to check in almost seven hours before their usual check in time. Lucky!

After getting settled at the hotel, I had their breakfast buffet which was very nice.

With up to 38 degrees today it was almost too hot to be outside! 😳 But I managed to go for a walk around the local area, Ao Nang, and down to the popular beach. It’s a very touristy place with lots of hotels, restaurants, tour operators and shops. The beach and the cliffs are very exotic and beautiful though.

When following the beach I eventually made it to the ‘monkey trail’, a rather steep walkway with a small wooden staircase. I didn’t see any monkeys today, but the trail leads to a gorgeous secluded bay and beach used by the Centara Grand resort where I had originally planned on staying. I decided not to, since you can only get there by boat, which is not so practical in the long run. Neither is the monkey trail - at least when carrying a suitcase 🙈

In any case, the resort and its ‘private’ beach is really something and I’m glad I saw it despite not staying at the hotel.

My actual hotel for the first two nights, dusit d2, is brand new and also quite good. I have a spacious room with a balcony overlooking the pool.

After getting back to my hotel, I decided to get a 90 min massage at the hotel’s spa facility. Everything is really cheap here so it would be silly not to get some spa pampering. The massage was good, and probably what my travel-weary body needed.

Over the afternoon I spent some more time at the hotel and finished the day with a nice dinner at the hotel’s own restaurant, which is really nice.

  • Krabi Day 2

    February 23, 2019 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today I went on a “4 islands” tour where we visited.. 3 islands. I think the last one was Chicken Island which we only saw from the boat.

Our first stop was Poda Island, a very idyllic spot where we hung out for a while, and had lunch by the water and the many longtail boats. It was quite a nice setting for a meal!

Next stop was Tup Island and the nearby Ko Mor which you could walk to due to the low tide. Another lovely place - and very bounty island’ish.

After sailing around some more we passed by the aforementioned ‘chicken island’ which sorta looks like a chicken. Maybe.

Our last stop was at the popular Ao Phra Nang beach where we saw Princess Cave which hosted a weird shrine with a lot of wooden objects that were carved into resembling a large penis. Hmm. The shrine also had several cans of Fanta left with a straw. Interesting combo, and I’m not sure what that was all about. Our guide tried to explain, but her broken English made it worse, frankly.

The hightlight of the day was a beautiful sunset which we watched right from the beach while sipping on a drink and eating a sandwich. Not bad! We also spotted a huge comodo dragon going through the thrash 😂

After returning to the hotel I had dinner at the hotel again - another local dish that was quite tasty.

  • Krabi Day 3

    February 24, 2019 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Pretty quiet day. I checked out this morning from my first hotel and, after some lunch in Ao Nang, I checked into my second and last hotel in Krabi - Cliff Beach Resort. I booked a panorama room which has a nice view of the ocean, even though the hotel is located a bit away from the beach. As the name suggests it’s placed up on a bit of a cliff, and my room is on the highest floor.

The hotel offers a free shuttle to the Andamana Beach Club so I figured I would check it out. It’s a lovely little restaurant/bar right on the beach itself and it has a nice view of the ocean. I had a curry dish which was very good, and a cocktail of course. You might as well when it’s only about 40 DKK (half price at happy hour!)

Tonight will also be relaxing since I have another full-day boat trip tomorrow - this one starting early.

  • Krabi Day 4

    February 25, 2019 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

    Interesting day of exploring!

Today I had booked another full-day boat tour around the region, this one with the ‘James Bond’ island as the main destination.

We rode by speedboat this time so it was a bit faster getting around, and we actually visited three different provinces over the day. We made 5-6 stops at various small islands where the main aim was to relax and enjoy the scenery. One of the stops included a BBQ lunch on the beach with the most amazing view. Great food, too!

Today we didn’t just relax though, but also explored a cave with a pretty unique setting - and lots of bats! Batman was probably hiding in there somewhere.

We also swam to hidden beaches, and a lovely lagoon. There was even a short walk through a jungle type of area with a big-ass tree.

Eventually we made our way to ‘James Bond’ island which was used as the location for the villain’s lair in The Man with the Golden Gun. We didn’t actually stop at the island but we got some nice photos from a distance.

After returning to my hotel I tried out their big BBQ buffet which was great. Now it’s time to watch the Oscar’s!
