Rock City & Found a Fellow Penguin

    July 16, 2023 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

    143km 🚗 & 1x 🚢 20min

Woke after a restless night and knew a change of tack was needed: wild camping is all well and good but a campsite has much to offer and not just in the way of hot showers 🤔

Although the Vega Camping was basic and fine it was not very sociable - tho I did speak with several people, mostly dog owners🐕

First things first: to sort out my lack of data for using the internet - necessary for ferry times as well as museum details and fine tuning the journey. Not to mention keeping in touch with friends near and far 🚢🎨🗺️

Frimley the Tiger called in a favour and next stop was an Esso garage... Apparently his Uncle Tobias spends his summers greeting drivers 🐯

Thankfully Dipika for Vodafone in India got me set up for an extra 15GB to finish out the next two weeks 📱

Then it was a dash to catch the ferry or a 2hr wait. Made it just in time. The smallest one so far with mostly Norwegian vehicles 🚢

Called in at a folk museum having stopped to take pictures in Rock City, Namsos - finding it was very quiet on a Sunday afternoon 🎶 as opposed to 🪨🪨🪨 😆

Then onto the best campsite so far: Holmeset Camping, just south of Sjoasen - due to the weather it's only open from May to September, with 8 lots of New Zealanders been through this year already 🏞️

So I've had a most friendly evening: Pete & Julia from NZ cycling Oslo to Tromso, Wilhelm & Johanna from the Netherlands, heading south in their VW Caddy. Along with Nina & Mark from Germany in their campervan, also heading south. 🇳🇿 🇳🇱 🇩🇪

Saving the best for last: fellow Penguin Alex from Austria - he's also on a bicycle from Oslo to the Lofoten islands and adding Footprints more frequently to clock his speedy progress 🇦🇹 🐧
