I had the pleasure of riding for a couple days with PG from Sweden 🇸🇪. He’s cycled from there over the past year and plans to cycle right around the world. He’s 65 and carrying 50kg of weight with him but was setting a fast pace for us. He’s raising money for endangered orangutans at theglobalcycling.com. I left him yesterday and have made it back to Johor Bharu. Big hot day 🚴🏼‍♂️- 160km.

t was a 190 nautical mile direct route from Hua Hin to Koh Samui that would take about two days. With some unfavourable and stronger winds we doubled that and it took 5 days. Some boats sail into the wind (close-hauled) better than others. SV Margarita is a very sea worthy 32 feet. .Les mer

I left Yangon three days ago but not before going for a few short rides around town on these. I rarely have the pleasure of getting a ride anywhere. Yangon is a bizarre city for many reasons, especially because motorcycles are banned. It means the traffic is horrible unless you own a bicycle 😊. Thankfully these sweet bike taxis are still allowed to cruise their neighbourhoods. I’ve since 🚴🏼‍♂️ - 82km + 87km + 52km.Les mer

Sometimes I can't cycle ten minutes without being asked to stop for a selfie. It gets tiring but I almost always stop.
Yesterday somebody stopped me and didn't ask for a selfie. He just seemed curious. We exchanged a few words with my very limited hindi and before he left he pulled out his wallet and gave me 100 Rupees. Enough for a meal. I think I'm starting to look and smell a bit rough 😅.

I had a super tiny piece of metal stuck in my tire that would puncture a tiny hole that would take over 8 hours for me to notice air loss. I couldn't find it for days! Too many flats and I finally did a deep inspection and removed it with tweezers.

For a week we have been day sailing our way south down the coast of Tanzania from Dar Es Salaam. We were repeatedly warned about how hard this would be with a counter current and likely unfavorable winds. Thankfully the current has been a non-issue and the winds have beamed us along! It still calls for vigilant sailing as we are always dodging reefs, sand bars, and fishing nets. There have been other issues but I will share those later. 🤪⛵🪨💪Les mer

Second attempt out of Hout Bay to Cape Town was a success. Leaving the dock was a bit dicey and We almost hit my new crew’s boat but we made it out without a bump. The infamous Frenchman Jack from Ty Baloo joined me and almost convinced me to put up the spinnaker just before it gusted to 25kts 😁. We managed to tack our way through the container ship harbour of Cape Town to the entrance of the Royal Cape Yacht Club but after several attempts to get in the narrow entrance I decided to tie up to the emergency buoy. I swam the final 50m while Jack motored Samudra past a couple brand new $400k catamarans into our slip. I expect to sail from here in a little over a week. 14.5 days and ~1700NM from Cape Town, South Africa to Jamestown, St. Helena.
I lost wind as soon as I left the dock at the RCYC and tacked my way 20+ times out of the container ship port. I then slowly drifted close to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
The wind eventually picked up later that day and blew strong for most of the passage. 20+ knots of wind and 3m seas were the average conditions.
After 4 days of sporting full foul weather gear the water and air began to warm up and I started work on my tan.
I spotted a few whales close to Cape Town and a pod of dolphins greeted me at St. Helena but that was about it. Some flying fish and squid hitting the deck was the extent of my fishing luck.
Surprisingly few birds also. Some terns, boobies, and tropic birds.
Samudra handled the winds and swell well with no major issues but I did have a long list of things to do upon arrival.
I had a 3 day wait for health clearance which was perfect to get the to do list finished.
Internet has been difficult here but the island has been spectacular.
