Von unserem coolen Freistehplatz geht es wieder weiter. Wir hätten nicht gedacht das Arizona doch noch so gebirgig ist und werden in Sedona von massiven Red Rocks überrascht. Wenig später finden wir rund um Flagstaff einen gemütlichen kleinen Platz zum übernachten.

Canyon Vista Campground-Flagstaff

Wir finden heute den kleinen Forrest Campground Canyon Vista. Wir fahren mal durch und finden Site #7 perfekt für uns. Wir richten uns ein und werfen den Grill an. Es gibt Ribeye Steaks mit Salat. Lecker!
Abends regnet es ein wenig, die spätere Nacht ist Klar.
Morgens spazieren wir noch zum Canyon und dann geht’s auch schon weiter.

Today we find the small Forrest Campground Canyon Vista. We drive through and find site #7 perfect for us. We settle in and fire up the grill. We have ribeye steaks with salad. Delicious!
In the evening it rains a little bit, the later night is clear.

Monument Valley here we come

Von Flagstaff geht es Richtung New Mexico, ursprünglich mit dem Ziel Farmington. Als wir jedoch knapp am Monument Valley vorbeifahren entscheiden wir uns spontan hier durch zu fahren. Es ist aber auch monumental!
Als wir Mexican Hat passieren und nach einem Stellplatz suchen, werden wir für unseren ‚Umweg‘ belohnt ….

From Flagstaff we head towards New Mexico, originally with the destination Farmington. However, as we drive just past Monument Valley, we spontaneously decide to drive through here. But it is also monumental!

BLM - Mexican Hat

Heute Nachmittag finden wir ein wenig nördlich von Mexican Hat einen tollen BLM Platz für die Nacht.
Von der Hauptstraße biegen wir auf eine Schotterpiste ( Valley of the Gods Road)ab, durchfahren ein ziemlich ausgetrocknetes Bachbett und müssen eine steile Piste hoch auf ein Plateau. Hier oben werden wir mit einer grandiosen Aussicht belohnt.
Abends rüttelt starker sehr böiger Wind unser Wohnmobil kräftig durch. Irgendwann in der Nacht gesellt sich noch ein Kastenwagen zu uns. Wow 🤩 was ein Platz!

This afternoon we find a great BLM site for the night a little north of Mexican Hat.
From the main road we turn onto a gravel road (Valley of the Gods Road), drive through a pretty dry creek bed and have to climb a steep slope up to a plateau. Up here we are rewarded with a magnificent view.
In the evening a strong gusty wind shakes our motorhome. Sometime during the night a van joins us. Wow 🤩 what a place! Czytaj więcej

Rocky Mountains here we come

Wir verlassen auf dieser Etappe die Red Rocks und erreichen die Rocky Mountains.

In Montrose gehen wir noch schnell shoppen und essen bei Chili’s.

Die Anfahrt auf den Platz, den wir uns für die Nacht ausgesucht haben, gestaltet sich abenteuerlich…

We leave the Red Rocks on this stage and reach the Rocky Mountains.

In Montrose we do some quick shopping and have lunch at Chili's.

Die Anfahrt zu diesem Platz war schon sehr abenteuerlich. Die letzten 5 Meilen erst gute Schotterpiste - die dann aber konstant schlechter und steiler wurde.
Wir hatten aber einen tollen Aufenthalt inmitten der Natur. Leider hat es immer wieder leicht geregnet.
Wir genießen unseren letzten Camping Abend und hoffen inständig am nächsten Tag die steile (und nasse) Schotterpiste wieder hochzukommen.

Was aber erfreulich einfach funktionierte.

The journey to this place was already very adventurous. The last 5 miles first good gravel road - but then became constantly worse and steeper.
But we had a great stay in the middle of nature. Unfortunately, it has rained lightly again and again.
We enjoy our last camping evening and hope fervently the next day the steep (and wet) gravel road to come back up.

Letzte Etappe nach Leadville

Unsere letzte Etappe führt uns von diesem einsamen Stück Natur quer durch die Rockys dabei führt unser gewählter Weg über die Grand Mesa - einem beeindruckenden Naturgebiet. In einer Höhe von durchweg über 10.000 Fuss / 3.000m liegt überall noch Schnee und kleine und größere Schmelzwasserbäche finden ihren Weg in tiefere Gebiete.
Anschließend durchfahren wir noch einen beeindruckenden Canyon den der Grand Mesa Scenic Byway liegt. Danach fahren wir in östliche Richtung die Interstate 70 und nehmen auf dem Weg nach Leadville noch schnell unseren Mietwagen mit, mit dem wir am Montag dann nach Denver fahren.
Wir kommen müde in Leadville an und gehen früh schlafen.

Our last stage leads us from this lonely piece of nature across the Rockies. Our chosen path leads us over the Grand Mesa - an impressive natural area. At an altitude of over 10,000 feet, snow is still everywhere and small and large meltwater streams find their way into lower areas.
Afterwards we drive through an impressive canyon which lies on the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway. Afterwards we drive east on Interstate 70 and quickly pick up our rental car on the way to Leadville, with which we will drive to Denver on Monday.

Heute wird alles aus unserem RVing, wie wir unser WoMo hier nennen, umgeräumt.
(RV steht im englischen für Recreational Vehicle - und beschreibt allg. jedwede Art von Campingfahrzeuge)
Mehr oder weniger landet alles direkt in den Koffern.
Da Barrett, Stef und Scott an diesem Wochenende zu einem weiteren Trails Event in Kingman Arizona sind, sind wir mit den Hunden allein zu Hause.
Wir werfen ein letztes Mal den Grill an um und ein paar Burger zuzubereiten.
Es ist immer ein schweres Gefühl, nicht nur unser Urlaub neigt sich dem Ende, auch werden wir unsere Familie dieses Jahr nicht mehr in Person sehen können. 😢

Today everything is moved from our RVing, as we call our Motorhome here.
More or less everything ends up directly in the suitcases.
Since Barrett, Stef and Scott are in Kingman Arizona for another trails event this weekend, we are home alone with the dogs.
We throw on the grill one last time to cook up and some burgers.

Wir geben unseren Mietwagen an.
Werden mit dem Shuttle zum Terminal gefahren und sind nun, mal wieder, viel zu früh dran.
Unser geplanter Stop bei Camping World fiel auch deutlich kürzer aus als geplant da die wenigen Mobile die da waren fast alle abgeschlossen waren. Das hatten wir anders in Erinnerung 🤷‍♂️

Die Wartezeit haben wir uns mit BBQ verbracht und nachdem unser Gate 3 mal wechselte durften wir final noch mal den Zug zum Bereich A nehmen. Dieser scheint in großen Teilen neu zu sein. Hier gibt es sogar einen großzügigen Außenlounge Bereich.

We check in our rental car.
Are driven by shuttle to the terminal and are now, once again, much too early.
Our planned stop at Camping World was also much shorter than planned because the few mobiles that were there were almost all locked. That we had differently in memory 🤷‍♂️

We spent the waiting time with BBQ and after our gate changed 3 times we were finally allowed to take the train to area A again. This seems to be new in large parts. There is even a spacious outdoor lounge area. Czytaj więcej

Nach einem langen und auch langweiligen Flug von Denver nach London, sitzen wir dort sehr lange rum. Der Flug war deshalb langweilig weil in ca. 1/3 des Flugzeuges das Entertainment System defekt war. Somit hatten wir leider keine Möglichkeit irgendwelche Filme zu schauen.
Glücklicherweise hatten wir gute Beinfreiheit und so hat zumindest Dirk große Teile des Fluges verschlafen.
Da das Essen auch nicht so toll war, essen wir in London ganz typisch Fish n Chips

Danach streunen wir durch den Terminal 2 und schauen uns auch gerne das Leben und Treiben hier an.
So langsam wird es aber Zeit nach Hause zu kommen

After a long and also boring flight from Denver to London, we sit there for a very long time. The flight was boring because in about 1/3 of the plane the entertainment system was broken. So unfortunately we had no possibility to watch any movies.
Fortunately we had good legroom and at least Dirk slept through large parts of the flight.
Since the food was also not so great, we eat in London quite typical fish n chips

Afterwards we roam through Terminal 2 and also like to look at the life and hustle and bustle here.

Der letzte Flug ging flott und bringt uns nach Düsseldorf.
Von dort geht es direkt nach Hause.
Wir bestaunen unsere Hühner und den doch wieder etwas verwilderten Garten.
Wir trinken ein Bierchen auf der Terrasse und fallen gerädert ins Bett.
Dieser Urlaub war voller neuer Eindrücke, diese müssen wir nun erst einmal Verarbeiten.
Gute Nacht 💤😘

The last flight went quickly and brings us to Düsseldorf.
From there we go directly home.
We marvel at our chickens and the yet again somewhat overgrown garden.
We drink a beer on the terrace and fall tired into bed.
This vacation was full of new impressions, we now have to process only once.
