Day 55, Jeju Island, In Full Bloom

Early flight to Jeju Island, known as South Korea’s Hawaii. Just 51 miles south of the mainland, it is also known for being South Korea’s honeymoon destination. With our guide Angelo, we toured a cedar forest, a flower feast, and Sunrise Peak, a UNESCO natural heritage site, rising 600 feet above the edge of the sea. I’m not sure how, but Sunrise Peak is a volcanic mountain topped by a 300 foot deep crater. The diving ladies work nearby. The ladies weren’t diving but could be seen selling the seafood they had caught earlier in the day. Big regret. We couldn’t climb to the top of Sunrise because the trail is closed one day a month - the first Monday…. exactly when we were there. 😢 The views at the top, of the crater and the sea, are said to be spectacular.Read more

Day 56, Just Jeju

Fun traveling with friends! Plus we are in a huge van with lots of room. Not sure Angelo quite know what to make of us - sometimes we are serious and very focused and other times joking and laughing uncontrollably. Two big highlights from today: Manjanggui, a five and a half mile lava tube (which is a long cave created by lava flow) and Hallim Park, a spectacular botanical garden.

Day 57, Eating and Shopping, Jeju

Not much to report. Just taking care of business - some shopping, laundry, naps. Lots of morning rain. Had two authentic Korean meals. Lunch was kimbop - a seaweed wrap with meat, veggies, and rice - delicious. And a fish/seafood dinner at a very authentic local restaurant. After all, we are on an island. You don’t see heavy Koreans. Our guide says it isn’t because they don’t eat. But because they eat so much kimchi and kimchi burns away all of the fat. Maybe. Seems to be working. Early start tomorrow.Read more

조식 먹으려던 브런치 카페가 안내보다 문을 더 늦게 열어서 실패 ㅠㅠ 급하게 검색해서 간 말로나 카페도 괜찮긴 했지만 동선이 다소 꼬였다. 엄마가 카페의 잔디 깎는 기계를 너무 좋아하심 ㅋㅋㅋ
느지막이 11시 넘어서 한림공원에 도착. 입장료 15000원이 아깝지 않은 좋은 시간이었다. 간간이 비가 흩뿌리긴 했지만 해가 안 나서 걷기에는 좋았고 식물들이 싱그러워 보였다.
동생이 거북이한과를 꼭 사야 된다고 해서 서귀포 올레 시장으로. 시장에서 대충 점심을 때웠다. 아리제과 오란다 강추!
저녁에는 다시 한림으로 이동해서 h 언니랑 족발을 먹었다. 비가 많이 와서 엄마가 운전하느라 고생하셨다 ㅠㅠRead more
