Guadix to Los Baños de Graena 13.2km

      October 2, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

It's sad to see how human interaction with nature is sometimes disrespectful. After walking in front of the cathedral, then the various buildings of the old quarter, you're suddenly confronted with all the rubbish left on the side of the road.

Once we had left that sphere of human interaction, we walked along a nice trail in a pine forest, with a few eucalyptus trees here and there. It was enjoyable.

We stopped at Purullena, where virtually everything was closed, except for a noisy bar, where men were arguing.

We walked on, and we arrived at the little town of Marchal. The Ayuntamiento is definitely very supportive of the Camino, with a big welcome to pilgrims sign, and a rest area with a St James cross monument.

Today being our actual wedding anniversary, we indulged in a nice room at the Hotel Balneario de Graena. The place is very quiet, possibly because it's the off season. We were happy to break the Guadix to La Peza stage in two short days. We're enjoying the scenery and the discovery together.

Day 10: Guadix to Baños de Graena

      May 6, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Day 10, from Guadix to Baños de Graena. 14 km, with all our little detours.
We started just after sunrise. The exit from Guadix is not particularly beautiful, but very soon we were walking in a pine forest, on a beautiful path.
Then just before arriving in Purullena, we passed through a canyon, where there was a levitating electric pole 😊
A short stop in Purullena for a tostada, and we got back on the road.
A small country road along olive groves lead us to Marchal, where the Ayuntamiento supports the Camino, in particular with a pilgrim shelter.
Luckily, the church in Marchal was open: 6 children were about to receive their first communion.
A short, last climb, and we arrived at Baños de Graena. We're sleeping at the Hostal Montual. We had booked at the Hostal Soledao, but they transferred us, because they have plumbing problems. In the comedor, for the almuerzo, we were the youngest 😄 First time we ate Migas de la Tierra, a dish from Extremadura. Very tasty!

      Marchal - ein kleines Dorf

      Yesterday in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C
