Dog Head Fire

Driving to Albuquerque yesterday we saw smoke from the Dog Head Fire. The fire has burned over 17,000 acres. These photos were taken today, several miles east of Albuquerque.

Tucumcari

We then left Santa Fe to continue on Route 66. One of our stops was at Tucumcari, where we saw a Route 66 Monument.
Glenrio

From Tucumcari, we continued on the route to Glenrio, which sits on the stateline between New Mexico and Texas. From what we could tell these buildings haven't been occupied in years.
Adrian

Our last stop before continuing on to Amarillo was the small town of Adrian. This spot marks the midpoint between Los Angeles and Chicago on Route 66.
Cadillac Ranch

Before continuing our drive we stopped at Cadillac Ranch.

Further down the road we stopped at Bug Ranch, an homage to Cadillac Ranch.

On our drive today, we saw a leaning water tower (Groom, TX) and the 66 Super Service Station (Alanreed, TX).
Fort Reno

During today's drive we stopped at Fort Reno. The fort began as a military camp in 1874 during the Indian Wars. It was later used as a POW camp for captured Italian and German soldiers during WWII.
Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial

We continued on the route to Oklahoma City, where we visited the memorial and museum dedicated to the victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing.
Route 66 Highlights

During our drive we stopped in Arcadia, Oklahoma. There, we stopped in at POPS, a roadside attraction with over 700 kinds of soda. We also saw an historic round barn constructed in 1898.
George Washington Carver Monument

Route 66 Highlights

While driving on the route today we stopped in Riverton, Kansas at the Rainbow Bridge. Built in 1923, it's the sole Marsh Arch Bridge remaining on the route.
World's Largest Rocking Chair

Traveling along 66 today we stopped in at the US 66 Outpost and General Store in Fanning, Missouri to see the World's Largest Rocking Chair.
St. Louis, MO

After arriving in St. Louis, we took an evening trip to the Gateway Arch.
Forest Park

Standard Oil Station

Continuing on to Chicago, we briefly stopped at a restored Standard Oil Station in O'dell, Illinois.
End of the Route

After 2,190 miles and 21 days, we arrived at the eastern terminus of the route in Chicago -- Jackson Street and Michigan Avenue. We also continued on to the route's pre-1937 end on Lake Shore Drive.Leia mais
