From oceanfront brunch to mountaintop views—Maui gave us both in one day. After a relaxed brunch at Mala Ocean Tavern in Lahaina—where island flavors met the Pacific Ocean—we set out on the 38-mile drive up the Haleakalā Highway. It took just over three hours, winding through lush Upcountry, past forests, ranches, and into the clouds. Our family of four watched the world change with every curve. At the summit, 10,000 feet high, we stood in silence as the sun sank into a fiery horizon. Cold wind, warm hands, quiet awe. Unforgettable.Read more

  • Maui Wildfire & Rebirth

    November 16, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 79 °F

The 2023 Wildfire. In August 2023, Maui suffered a devastating wildfire, primarily in Lahaina, fueled by dry conditions and strong winds from a nearby hurricane. The fast-moving blaze destroyed much of the historic town, claiming over 100 lives, displacing thousands, and causing billions in damages. It was one of Hawaii’s deadliest natural disasters, prompting widespread recovery efforts and global support to rebuild the community.

Amid the tragedy, Maui’s natural and cultural treasures remain largely intact, offering visitors countless reasons to explore and support the island’s recovery. West Maui’s resort areas like Ka’anapali, Napili, Honokowai, and Kapalua were untouched by the fires and are fully open, boasting pristine beaches and world-class snorkeling at spots like Kapalua Bay, named one of America’s best beaches. South Maui’s luxurious Wailea and Kihei offer stunning coastlines, views of Molokini Crater, and vibrant marine life, perfect for snorkeling and whale watching (December to April). The Road to Hana winds through rainforests and waterfalls, while Upcountry’s Haleakalā National Park stuns with volcanic views. Cultural festivals, local luaus, and eco-friendly tours invite respectful engagement.

By visiting Maui, tourists can explore Maui’s enduring paradise—spared and still spectacular—while directly aiding its economic and cultural revival. Supporting local businesses and respecting recovery efforts ensures that every trip helps Maui rebuild stronger, preserving its magic for generations to come.
