Angkor, Neak Pean

Neak Pean ist eine künstliche Insel im Zentrum des Nördlichen Baray, eines künstlichen Staubeckens. Das im Bauschaffen der Khmer einmalige Ensemble entstand Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts unter König Jayavarman VII. Der Tempel an sich ist quasi winzig, zur Trockenzeit dieht man wohl zwei ineinandergeschlungene Schlangen. Viel schöner ist das den Tempel umgebende Wasserbecken mit den Lotusfeldern, windstill am späten Nachmittag.

Neak Pean is an artificial island in the center of the Northern Baray, an artificial reservoir. The unique ensemble in Khmer architecture was built at the end of the 12th century under King Jayavarman VII. The temple itself is virtually tiny; in the dry season you can probably see two snakes entwined in one another.
