Cambodia, Good Bye

Kambodscha. Auch ein Land, zu dem ich keinerlei Vorstellung hatte. Angkor Wat, klar, mal gehört, aber sonst?! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Der Vietnamkrieg, als die US Militärs hier mehr Bomben abwarfen als im zweiten Weltkrieg. Und damit Zehntausende von Bauern töteten, die dort einfach nur arbeiteten. Und somit auch den Khmer Rouge die Kinder in die Arme trieb. Kambodscha als perfektes Beispiel dafür, dass man nie 100% absehen kann, was eine politische Entscheidung für weitreichende Folgen haben kann. Die Menschen haben sich davon noch nicht erholt, aber es muß ja weitergehen. Die Armut ist teils deutlich sichtbarer als in Vietnam. Kinder betteln und wollen irgendwas verkaufen. Man soll aber nicht, denn wenn sie damit Geld verdienen, gehen sie gar nicht mehr in die Schule. Schule. 3 Stunden pro Tag, 6 Tage die Woche. Ein Anfang, aber nicht genug für ein Land, welches nach Bildung dürstet. Und welches immer noch nicht wirklich demokratisch ist nach Aussage von Leuten hier. Zwar gibts ca. 23 Parteien, davon stehen aber 22 hinter der Regierungspartei. Eine kleine Gruppe im Land ist superreich, der Rest… überlebt. Viele haben das Land noch nie verlassen. Träumen mal, nach Thailand oder Europa zu kommen. China gilt noch als großer Bruder, aber etwas skeptisch betrachtet. Sie investieren und bringen dabei immer viele Chinesen mit ins Land, die hier angesiedelt werden. Sollte China mal hier einmarschieren, ist die Armee schon da. Prinzip Russische Kommune auf der Krim. Hühnchenfleisch und Fisch liegt hier stundenlang in der Sonne, die müssen einen Stahlmagen haben. Teilweise schwimmt knorpeliges Fleisch in den Suppen, das will man eigentlich gar nicht essen. Ich werde gut im Rausfischen von Kleinteilen mit Stäbchen. Nächstes Level: Mikroplastik. Mit Angkor Wat haben die DEN Touristenmagneten im Land, Glück gehabt. 3 Tages Pass = 62 US Dollar. Dollar wird als Zweitwährung akzeptiert, aber nur unbeschädigte Banknoten. Buddhismus und Mönche gehören fix zur Gesellschaft, die werden unterdtützt und unterstützen. Schrift kann man natürlich nicht lesen, meist wird aber übersetzt. Manchmal aber halt auch nicht. 🫣 Die Leute sind nett, aber weniger offen als in Vietnam oder Indonesien. Englisch ist eher selten anzutreffen auf der Strasse. Zu zahlende Beträge werden gerne mal vorgezeigt oder aufgeschrieben. Alles geht, wenn man will. Kambodscha will. Hoffentlich kriegt es die richtige Unterstützung, um die verlorenen Jahrzehnte wieder aufzuholen. Den verlorenen Reichtum von einst… der ist weg, auch wenn sie ihm sehr nachtrauern.

Cambodia. Also a country that I had no idea about. Angkor Wat, sure, I've heard of it, but otherwise?! 🤷🏼‍♀️ The Vietnam War, when the US military dropped more bombs here than in World War II. And killed tens of thousands of farmers who were simply working there. And thus also drove the children into the arms of the Khmer Rouge. Cambodia is a perfect example of how you can never predict 100% what far-reaching consequences a political decision can have. People haven't recovered from it yet, but things have to go on. The poverty is sometimes much more visible than in Vietnam. Children beg and want to sell something. But you shouldn't, because if they earn money with it, they won't go to school anymore. School. 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. A start, but not enough for a country thirsty for education. And which still isn't really democratic according to people here. Although there are around 23 parties, 22 of them are behind the government party. A small group in the country is super rich, the rest…survive. Many have never left the country. Dream of coming to Thailand or Europe. China is still seen as a big brother, but viewed with some skepticism. They invest and always bring many Chinese people into the country who settle here. If China ever invades here, the army will already be there. Principle of the Russian Commune in Crimea. Chicken and fish lie here in the sun for hours; they must have steel stomachs. Sometimes there is gristly meat floating in the soups, which you don't really want to eat. I'm getting good at picking out small parts with chopsticks. Next level: microplastics. They got lucky with Angkor Wat, THE tourist magnet in the country. 3 day pass = 62 US dollars. Dollars are accepted as a secondary currency, but only undamaged banknotes. Buddhism and monks are an integral part of society, they are supported and support. Of course you can't read the writing, but most of the time it's translated. But sometimes not. The people are nice, but less open than in Vietnam or Indonesia. English is rarely encountered on the street. Amounts to be paid are often shown or written down. Anything is possible if you want. Cambodia wants. Hopefully it gets the right support to make up for the lost decades. The lost wealth of yesterday... it's gone, even if they mourn it very much.Leggi altro
