• Disko 12: Motoring on glass

    What was supposed to become a beautiful day of sailing turned into a relaxed day of motoring. No wind at all today. Race boat Vanuily dashes ahead with 7.8 knots under engine, we follow up at 6.5 knots. In the anchorage Anne and Hugues are preparing a delicious dinner for all of us, Jörg and Richard bake an artful apple-mango-chilli cake for desert.

    We are now at 71°38’N. The sun is always clearly up such that the solar cells are producing energy around the clock. I would have never thought that the solar power is enough to provide for all our cooking, desalination and navigation needs at these latitudes. We have a stable high-pressure system for several days already. Barely any heating is required.
