Tainan has plenty of old buildings from the Japanese colonial period, including one that looks like a wedding cake!
An interesting feature of the city is the electric connection boxes from when the power lines were put underground. Most of them (and they're about every 100m!) have been hand painted with country scenes. Mostly similar but never identical.
Anping harbour has this large statue of a sea godess, a retired navy destroyer (originally US, built in 1945) and a couple of APCs, as well as a reconstruction of the ship Xoxinga used to come to Taiwan to kick the Dutch out.Read more
