    Islands & Oysters ๐Ÿ˜‹

    AUGUSTUS ๐Ÿ home of abandoned pearling camp (built mid 60s) & monster oysters...Ted a happy chappy ๐Ÿ˜Š. Gorgeous spot & perfect night ๐Ÿ˜ด with not a ripple on water. Our day was spent exploring, oyster picking & chillaxing by ๐Ÿ”ฅ with good tunes & company. Non oyster eaters baked potatoes & sausage ๐Ÿ˜‹.
    Our tranist took us past sleeping ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ‹ on way to SHEEP ๐Ÿ, Camden Harbour. We visit historic marked boab & grave site of Mary Pasco (died child birth) & 6 other unmarked graves...result of failed settlement in 1864-65 on mainland directly east of ๐Ÿ. Walking through the remains of the government camp it very obvious this location choice was ๐Ÿ’ฉ.    Leggi altro

    Prince Regent River

    PURUBA CREEK. Day 1, travelling in with tide, we pulled up in creek as it turned. Too hard to push against plus ๐Ÿ˜จ shallows to navigate. Weโš“๏ธ close to entry & set off to explore. Rock climbing with spinifex was extreme ๐Ÿ˜ณ but creek fishing/trawling was awesome ๐Ÿ˜. I landed 3 keeper ๐ŸŸ 2 Jack & a Finger Perch...no skill required obviously (it's me ๐Ÿ™ƒ), just our lucky lure & being the closest to ๐ŸŽฃ when they bite. 3 SVs in creek for the night... so catch up with new friends, ๐Ÿบ & a ๐ŸŸ each.
    CASCADE FALLS. Day 2, we push off early & head further up river. โš“๏ธ in Camp Creek & eagerly dinghy ride 7nm to the Falls. Arrive just as cruise boat leave so we have place to ourselves ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ™ . Big, awesome day swimming in & hiking up the waterway. The quiet streams above become a roar at the bottom.
    CAMP Creek. DAY 3, after an evening of high & dry moments we set off up steam. It was a๐Ÿ‘ hike...1) because I didn't nearly die, 2) more stunning, ๐ŸŠ fee pools & falls to explore.    Leggi altro

    Central KI Coast ๐Ÿ‘Œ anchorages

    Steadily moving North, with quick stopovers as we turn East, saying ๐Ÿ™ to Dambimangari country and ๐Ÿ‘‹ to Wunambal Gaambera.
    CAREENING BAY. Quick stop to checkout histoic boab inscribed with "HNC Mermaid 1820" after Philip Parker King stopped to repair boat on his survey of Oz.
    CAPE POND. Awesome โš“๏ธ & rest from a big day of ??? โ›ต๏ธ...9 knts SOG vs 3 knts STW on a 45° angle + 1hr of wind vs tide slop ๐Ÿ‘Ž. Little islands, joined by sand @ LW, flood with incoming tide to form creeks and ponds...great fun to explore & ๐ŸŽฃ .
    PRUDHOE ISLAND. We tucked up for 2 ๐ŸŒ™ in Shelter Bay. Not a ๐ŸŠ area but lots & losts of ๐Ÿฆˆ ๐Ÿฆˆ ๐Ÿฆˆ. A hike (rock/spinifex scramble), beach swim, & camp๐Ÿ”ฅ tea...โค๏ธ it.

    South Montague Sound & North

    WINYALKAN BAY. Stunning group of ๐Ÿ with great ๐ŸŽฃ & โ›ฑ๏ธ. It is freaking hot ๐Ÿฅต @ the moment (record heatwave) so beach swimming is ๐Ÿ˜Š (with ๐Ÿ‘ out for๐ŸŠ) Its too hot to be on boat by 9am so off early to explore. We follow Visitor Pass directions to find 4 men in a canoe painting... awesome painting but the find a fluke as it is way smaller than we look for. Our explore also took us to beautiful ( & cool) billabongs, caves & rock shades. We discovered rock tidal pools on Unnamed Island (yep that's its name) where I snagged a Cod before heat got too much & I return to swimming ๐Ÿ˜€.
    MURRANGINGI ISLAND. Offered great โš“๏ธ in channel & big clear water beaches for more swimming...still too hot to be on boat. Ted ๐Ÿ‘€ monster size mullet cruising shallows so raced back to boat to get throw net...success = mullet for tea.
    CAPE VOLTAIRE. We sail with tide up & around Cape to โš“๏ธ Barricooda Bay, arriving @ dusk. Total chaos....Ted landing our 1st KI Mackerel as we navigate in with minimal light & sails still up ๐Ÿฅด
    Lots of fish to eat/share now which we are super greatful for. After 6 weeks the fridge has a definite echo to it & fresh food down to a few ๐Ÿฅ”, 2 ๐ŸŽƒ, 3 ๐Ÿฅ•, 2 ๐Ÿฅ‘ & 6 ๐Ÿฅš. ๐Ÿ˜†    Leggi altro

    Barra-tastic @ the Osborne's

    MIDDLE ISLAND, OSBORNE ISLANDS. ๐Ÿ‘ Another awesome Kimberley ๐Ÿชฃ list โœ”๏ธ....1st barramundi. We had been pondering on who was going to get to the lucky lure 1st & possible ๐Ÿ’” to 31yr marriage i.e wife pushed hubby into ๐ŸŠ infested waters (by accident?) in rush to land her 1st Barra. Well the ๐ŸŽฃ god must have been listening ๐Ÿคฃ as after a couple of unsuccessful hook ups (taking turns of course) we landed out 1st beautiful barras at same time & both keeper size. It was total chaos but super wicked fun. It's still freaking ๐Ÿ”ฅ here so we paused to enjoy 2 rest days/sml explores that included a vist to a grand old lady... one of the oldest boabs in KI. We have put ourselves on ๐ŸŽฃ hiatis until eat through ๐ŸŸ ๐Ÿ  ๐Ÿก stores...lucky we have buddy boat to help ๐Ÿ˜‹.Leggi altro

    Illegal fishermen & ๐ŸŠ

    1โ€“4 set 2024, Indian Ocean โ‹… ๐ŸŒ™ 27 ยฐC

    PARRY HARBOUR. We ๐ŸŒ cruised into the bay @ dusk to snag a very different catch... Indonesian fishermen. 3 guys walking waist-deep with net bags in tow & 4 guys on the beach who ran. Border Force notified...not a simple task AH on Sunday ๐Ÿคจ. It had been a big โ›ต๏ธ day so โš“๏ธ down & early ๐Ÿ˜ด (CCTV on &๐Ÿคž). The next morning Oz warship ๐Ÿ“ž to advise that 2 ribs were incoming. Pete pointed them directly to the mangroves, approx 400m to the side of us. Within minutes we heard "Get down on the ground" yelled as they caught all 7. They wait for tide to come in to secure/remove boat & crew, which had been caught 2 times in as many weeks & returned to international waters (20 nm out). The Captain radio thanks on exit....it would have been great if they show appreciation by sharing a few veggies ๐Ÿ˜‰. We buzzed in to check out the camp...gotta say they do it tough in mangroves...no fire, 1m from creek & 40°+. A machete-caved passage hid the boat...now understand why its tricky to spot by ๐Ÿ›ฉ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ›ฅ. Knowing what to look for we found 2 more hiding spots in the area.
    A super exciting stopover that included a sneaky 2m ๐ŸŠ visit to beach BBQ, a night of bioluminescenceence & a running exit from beach when a 4-5m+ ๐ŸŠ decided to join us. ๐Ÿ˜€    Leggi altro

    A little bit of everything...

    VANSITTART BAY. We ๐Ÿ™Œ with glassoff weather, stunning vistas & no cruise ๐Ÿ›ณ as we explore popular tourist spots.
    MAINLAND. Remains of a DC3 ๐Ÿ›ฉ that crashed World War 2 after running out of โ›ฝ๏ธ..in ๐Ÿ˜ฎ good condition after all this time. On nearby saltpan we ๐Ÿ‘€ & ready to ๐Ÿƒ‍โ™‚๏ธ from wild ๐Ÿฆฌ ...thankfully we just see their big ๐Ÿ’ฉ.
    JAR ISLAND. 2 Wunambal Gaambera art sites. Our fav was on Westside, where we โš“๏ธ for the night having hiked late, enjoying ๐Ÿ˜ rock colours at ๐ŸŒ… & in the morning, Ted found an oyster sporgustboard for b/fast ๐Ÿ˜‹.
    FRESHWATER BAY. Great stay & catch up with friends on SV Blue Yonder...we hadn't seen since Montibello's 2023 so lots of chatter/laughs, too many ๐Ÿป๐Ÿท๐Ÿฅ‚& a late night = enough energy to only ๐Ÿ‘ฃ to lower-level freshwater puddles the next day ๐Ÿ˜ซ.    Leggi altro

    With both fridges hollow, frozen veg gone & limited recall of a crisp, green anything ๐Ÿ˜ฒ reprovisioning was desperately needed...tin veg not a fav. With no Woolies nearby, Kalumburu was our best option, ideally just a few days after the fortnightly supply barge from Darwin...it was this or beg a passing cruise ship for their scraps ๐Ÿคฃ.
    HONEYMOON BAY. Pick-up spot to grab a 21 km ride inland (thanks to SV Singularity connections & 2 kind police officers) we sort rubbish, fuel & food. It's embarrassing ๐Ÿ˜ณ just how excited I was. The Guys, headed off to sort โ›ฝ๏ธ while Nicky & I quickly shopped foodstuffs ๐Ÿ˜Š. A big day & unique experience... 3 weeks of anticipation, bumpy ๐Ÿš” ride, ๐Ÿคฏ @ ๐Ÿ‘€ of fresh๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿฅ‘, a rushed grab for 4 weeks of essentials & return before Ted ๐Ÿฆ melt ๐Ÿ˜€.
    GOVERNER ISLANDS. RnR & explore while we wait for a weather window to go East & around Cape Londonderry.
    KI continues to surprise & stun... around every corner, Bay & Cape the rock formations & colors change ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿฅฐ    Leggi altro

    Weatherman in control ๐Ÿ˜†

    14โ€“20 set 2024, Australia โ‹… ๐ŸŒฌ 31 ยฐC

    After adventure shopping, we โ›ต๏ธto Buce Bay, southwest of CAPE TALBOT, to wait for a wind window to get around CAPE LONDONDERRY, the most northern point of WA & notorious for beating up an unsuspecting sailor or two.
    Despite lots of ๐ŸŠ tracks making nervous beach visits & it being a bit rocknroll at times it was good to chillax.
    After 4 days we scored a sml break in the persistent easterly pattern to buzz around the corner...now sitting in GLYCOSMIS BAY. Awesome spot, surrounded by stunning cliffs & lots of wildlife...big + is out of the wind & no rocking.
    Our treks start with ๐Ÿ˜จ cliff climbs but are well worth it. Trek 1 up to the Lost City...super cool caves & art. Trek 2 up to the waterways, giant Boab & billabongs...mostly dry now but easy to picture how stunning it would be in the wet season.     ๐Ÿ˜” times for the Godden clan as we say goodbye to Ted's dad Ribsy, a man who will forever hold a special place in our hearts & memories ♥๏ธ We know in our hearts Ribs is happy, no more pain and with Merle again sharing a port.
    We plan to push East to Darwin over the next few weeks and leave OTD on hardstand before heading home to celebrate Rib's amazing life with family and friends. X    Leggi altro

    King George River...a whole lot of wow๐Ÿ˜ฒ

    KING GEORGE RIVER is amazing... a 7nm winding riverway surrounded by towering cliffs that end @ the TWIN WATERFALLS. They are impressive dry so we need to return when in full flow. The area is full of life, including dugongs & turtles with stunning vistas around every corner, I โค๏ธ spotting faces in the cliff face as we buzz past. The wet season is almost upon us & it's getting super hot & humid ๐Ÿ˜ซ....we plan activities early or with a sundowner ๐Ÿบ but often we fry our silly butts as stay out too long exploring/fishing. Despite being 50 degrees in the cooler bag, we climbed up the Fall in search of fresh billabongs... imagine our surprise ๐Ÿ˜ฑ, cooling off in a chest chest-deep puddle, when an sml ๐ŸŠ decided to join us. WTF....we are 80m high & a long way from saltwater??? We found his warning track (post-swim ๐Ÿคช), sadly we also found a few dead cane toads, so can confirm they are there too ๐Ÿ˜”.     Kimberley wrap up ๐Ÿ˜”

    BERKELEY RIVER. Stunning, but unfortunately, the falls/pools were dry as we are very late in the season. ๐Ÿคž we return to see it in its full glory 2025.
    We experienced a lot of 1sts this last week.
    1st FLY-IN visitors. Andrew & Vicki join the trip via float ๐Ÿ›ซ, bringing their awesome selves as well as some eagerly anticipated๐Ÿท & ๐Ÿป
    1st LONG WAIT. Inadvertently (pre-hike reading complacency ๐Ÿคฃ), we navigated to & explored the wrong creek. We realise we are up Shitz Creek rather than Paul's Creek when return to Dingy to find it stuck in the mud until the tide returns ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. It was stinking hot, so super grateful to have emergency supplies, some shade, a light breeze a podcast downloaded & great crew stuck with us.
    1st USE OF EMERGENCY PACK. Having lugged a heavy pack out of dingy & up to a secure landing spot every hike for months in safety prep it saved our butts... electrolytes, spare water, crackers & jellybeans proved to be essential when stuck on a cliff.
    1st ๐ŸŠ FIGHT. After 5 hrs, we scrambled down the cliff, as quickly as we could & into dinghies as the creek refilled only to be met by 2 good size ๐ŸŠ fighting. They did not rush to move away, so it was a quick dash past with whacking sticks on the ready.
    1st SQUALL. The start of Wet has confirmed that we are ready to exit. It's bloody hot and humid & the weather changes quickly.
    1st SPARKLING VIBRATION...totally mind-blowing ๐Ÿคฏ to hear & tricky to figure out. The water, full of bioluminescence with a rushing tide, strikes the bridle/hull & creates a strong vibration through the boat. It took 2 nights, of searching & a Dr. Karl podcast to identify ๐Ÿ˜†.

    We are back online & back in Darwin after 4 wonderful weeks at home with our special people โค๏ธ .
    OtD is up on hardstand getting her butt cleaned, oil changed & rudders serviced. This & a lot more to do before we leave for Indonesia...our prep is similar to Kimberley... less my 96 bottles of ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿท & Ted's many ๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ˜….
    A few belated snaps...
    We had a great time sailing (motoring) across Bonaparte Golf...thanks A for sharing the Watch, thanks V for being conscious at least 15 every few hrs ๐Ÿ˜ด. Bloody hot trip, arrival & exploration of Darwin before heading home.     The not-so-sexy side of โ›ต๏ธ

    We (mostly Ted) have been in full-on maintenance mode... regardless of weather ever-changing events โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒก๐ŸŒง๐ŸŒฉโšก๏ธ. Most bits being the necessary maintenance after 1st leg of our trip, the rest are self-inflicted improvements before Indo.
    The good news is that OtD is all but ready to go back in the drink ๐ŸŒŠ with our lift-in scheduled for the 6th.
    Mechanic & hydraulic serviced โœ”๏ธ bottom cleaned & patched โœ”๏ธ Boat survey โœ”๏ธ insurances โœ”๏ธ new dingy motor โœ”๏ธ OtD brewery established โœ”๏ธ boat stamp made โœ”๏ธ (apparently Indo officials love stamps?)
    Our last jobs are to buy/load food stores & finalise install of a new inverter (extra power for air-con = ๐Ÿฅต to ๐Ÿฅถ to ๐Ÿ˜Š).
    We are tentatively booked for exit out of OZ on the 13th. The ABF requirements were eye-opening...in addition to the stuff you would expect we have had to register as exporter/importer (OtD exported out as a single cargo item) & we have to exit Oz waters immediately after our checkout procedure... which requires you to book 5 days ahead & can only be done Mon- Fri, 9 am & 2 pm ๐Ÿคช. Our plan to โ›ต๏ธ out to the furthest ๐Ÿ (50nm), rest up & wait for a suitable weather window to โ›ต๏ธ the remaining 250nm to Saumlaki is a no go...we advised not negotiable, apparently safe sailing is not high on their risk management priorities??     ๐ŸšฆReady, set & off to Indo we GO!!!

    WE ARE READY.... for the next leg in this year for adventure ๐Ÿ‘.
    WE HAVE....dug out, dusted off & checked all safety gear โœ”๏ธ; aquired 2 offshore life jacketsโœ”๏ธ; filled up our tanks (600ltr water and 480lt fuel) โœ”๏ธ; filled the cupboards & fridges with all things hard to get over there (especial lots of butter & cheese) โœ”๏ธ; installed new Code O sail (& it fits ๐Ÿ˜€); managed to wean me off my beloved wine (now making beer & moonshine) โœ”๏ธ; finalised out of water survey/ boat insurance โœ”๏ธ; sea trialled new dingy motor โœ”๏ธ; and brought spares for our spares ๐Ÿคฃ.
    IT'S TIME... to put on our big girl panties๐Ÿฉฒ, hoist the sailsโ›ต๏ธ & leave the safety of OZ waters ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.
    We are booked to exit Monday at 9 a.m. with hope the predicted 15knt Westerly pattern ๐Ÿค” will push us quickly to Saumlaki, our check-in destination. 300nm to travel... 5knts = 60hrs, 6knts = 50hrs & 7knts = 42hrs. We will take turns to cover 4hr watch ๐Ÿ‘€, so less time = less ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿฅฑ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ด. Arrival planning is as challenging as leaving. We need good weather/speed to arrive in daylight..a must to be able to see and navigate around unmarked local fishing boats & FADs (๐ŸŸ attraction devices) and also to arrive before Friday arvo as Customs will be closed (Muslim prayer time).
    I have attached a few snaps of inside OtD ..a virtual tour for those who have not yet been on board, I did promise these a while ago (sorry, Jeanette)...plus they will be helpful should we need to claim on our outrageously expensive SE Asia insurance.
    We will lose about Starlink 20 NM out, so expect to be off-line for a bit. Hopefully, it will smoothly pick up again when we get close to land again ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž so we can share photos from the other side of the ditch. Love TNT โค๏ธ โค๏ธ    Leggi altro

    Arrived ๐Ÿ™& ready to explore ๐ŸŒ

    ARRIVED!!! ๐Ÿฅณ
    Our Monday ABF check out of OZ, whilst very thorough (full search/ interview), was finished by 9:30, so with a strong 15-19knt breeze, we spead out of Darwin Port at a cool 8knts+. We travelled between the Tiwi islands as far as we safely could that night, โš“๏ธ down @ 9pm about 2/3 through the pass. A double-check of weather found it to be ramping up (swell/wind gusts), so we decided to wait it out for a day. Wednesday, up 5 am bright and sparky only to discover a big storm system passing between us & the exit track....so back to bed . Take 2 @ 7am we motored out between the reefs & started to sail away from OZ. 1st couple of hours were sweet, 15knt westerly= 8knt speed ๐Ÿ˜ so we ๐Ÿค” trip will be speedy... then the breeze dropped ๐Ÿ˜ž. Whist not ideal it did give opportunity fly new Code0 sail (big headsail... imagine if spinnaker & foresail had a baby), & this then carried us most of the way, average 6 1/2 knts. We luckily had a dream โ›ต๏ธ ...moonlight, low traffic, steady winds & seas (with a few visitors to keep us entertained). We sailed into Indo waters around 2pm, put up the Q flag (quarantine), & our โš“๏ธ down in Saumlaki Thursday @ 5pm. Knackered so arrival ๐Ÿป, quick tea & bed.
    Friday, we met Higgins (our agent & saviour) @ 9am to start the check-in process....1st building-quarantine/ health clearance (1 hr) , 2nd - Immigration/visitor permit which Higgins did for us while we looked around (1hr)...then back to boat to sort replacement fuel (180ltr from Darwin). 3rd step- take Customs out for physical check of boat @ 3pm then up St to office for official clearance paperwork (1 1/2hr) then back to hotel (dingy tie up pt) for Bintang celebration (Q flag down/ indonesia courtesy flag up). 4th step, Harbour Master exit clearance and quarantine exit clearance , we did this Saturday morning (2 hrs) to be able to leave Saumlaki early Sunday.
    So greatfull ๐Ÿ™for Higgins help, without this, we would have taken at least a week to puzzle the process out ๐Ÿคฏ if at all. We are the only Aussies here, very little English spoken & we need to learn indo basics asap.
    After our market visit, especially the ๐Ÿฆ‘๐Ÿฆˆ๐ŸŸ section ๐Ÿคข, I quickly decide I will go vego options whilst eating on land...lucky we have a freezer full of protein ๐Ÿ˜….

    Next.. a week or so island hopping our way up the East side of Tanimbar in prep for a northern launch/sail to the Kai Island group.

    Kei islands ๐Ÿ lots of wow

    We left beautiful Wotap Island, our Chrissy hideaway, heading up to the launch point for a 65nm crossing to Kei Islands. The crossing was an interesting โ›ต๏ธ... just us, the ocean, 101 flying fish, an unlucky ( but yummy) dolphin fish, a few squalls & a day of in/out sails. We arrived @ Tanimbar Kei, drowned ๐Ÿ€ & knackered.
    The next morning we discovered Warbal Island/ Ngurtavur Beach โค๏ธ where despite our terrible Bahasa we made friends, were given kelapa (coconuts) & got the local ๐Ÿ‘....we are also quite a bit lighter on fishingline, pencils, books, hooks, lures and biscuits ๐Ÿ˜.
    Our 1st mate Kopi, collector of beach fees, being a friendly & patient chap introduced himself many times...we dumb asses ๐Ÿคช kept offering to share cuppa as Kopi means Coffee ๐Ÿ˜†. When Kopi visited us, Ted raided the cupboard for a few clothes & promised ๐Ÿ‘“. Kopi was stoked & put ๐Ÿ‘• straight on. Oops, it was mine ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ... very hard to keep a straight face & impossible to ask to swap it for another.
    Kopi family made us cake as thank you. Cake/ Kue... Ted heard as quail...it was a nervous wait as he unwrapped ๐Ÿ˜†.
    Awesome location... lots of snorkelling colourful reefs & fish, beach walks & friendly boat visitors.    Leggi altro

    Across to Debut village for NY eve, located on Kai Kecil, home of the Hawang Caves.... 10min scooter through village, trek down slippery stairs to ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ in the cool, cave waters ๐Ÿ˜Š. Our friendly rider found us a Bintang shop on return trip so we set for NY. Lol, too many ๐Ÿบ & ๐Ÿพ (thx Chris & Tam) had us making ๐Ÿ’ค by 10pm ๐Ÿคฃ.
    Next, Ngurbloat Beach where we stayed a few nights enjoying crispy cumi (squid) & chill time. A stunning beach but also a stunning amount of rubbish ๐Ÿ˜”
    Quick stop into city of Tual for fuel/food. Having heard a dingy motor was stolen a few weeks prior our moto was In/out. Fuel โœ…๏ธ , food โŒ๏ธ ...our remaining Aus veg in better condition than shop options ๐Ÿ˜ฒ.
    With 300+ nm to Raja Ampat, we have started our island-hopping adventure north, using no-wind days to push up instead of fighting the prevailing winds.
    Lots of motoring = lots of time...to bake, paint, do washing, practice Indonesian, fishing & processing our catch... ๐Ÿ˜ฎ‍๐Ÿ’จ all rubbish.
    Each stop takes us further into the remote... ๐Ÿ™Œ locations are beautiful & have friendly locals to say hello.

    Arrived Raja Ampat โ˜บ๏ธ WOW!!!

    Keen as we left early (still dark), destination Misool in the southern end of Raja Ampat
    Marine Protection Area...fishermen & floating trees everywhere so we pulled up to wait โฐ๏ธ for ๐ŸŒž. 65nm, 2 squalls & a log love bite later we arrived to a rainy but stunning anchorage.
    Our Raja learnings so far...
    * nerves of steel required to โš“๏ธ when 60mtr turns to a shallow reef in 60 sec ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคฏ
    *it is no fun to be surrounded by 100+ squid ๐Ÿ™ when in a No-take zone ๐Ÿ˜ญ.
    So far, it's just us & local fishermen here, so we are feeling ๐Ÿ™Œ & ready to enjoy this incredible place...sleep-ins, snorkelling๐Ÿคฟ, paddle boarding, hikes & roof sundowners.
    Every day, around every new island we find ourselves in total awe of the beauty here, above & below water. OMG!!!!

    * It is managed by the local community, resort & gov.

    Misool is a literal labyrinth of ๐Ÿs & we try to explore as many as possible.
    From caving with ๐Ÿฆ‡๐Ÿ•ท๐Ÿฆ€, ๐Ÿคฟ with ๐Ÿชผ, โ›ฐ๏ธ climbs (sometimes with steps & ๐Ÿชœ ??๐Ÿ˜ณ) & local Homestay meals ๐Ÿš๐Ÿฅข...we have had an awesome time & hope to return as many times as this life will let us ๐Ÿฅฐ
    We leave tomoz, starting the 80nm โ›ต๏ธ to Sorong where Ma, Pa & Julie will jump on board for 2 weeks...super excited to share beauiful Raja Ampat with them ๐Ÿ˜Š

    *Raja Ampat, literally meaning ‘The Four Kings’ comprises of over 1,500 small islands, cays, and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati, and Misool.
    * Jellyfish lake, known locally as Danau Ubur-Ubur Lanmakana, is one of only 3 inland lakes inhabited by jellyfish in the world. They are stingless and very fragile.

    Fun times exploring Raja ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Arrived in Sorong, West Papua, arvo of 28th to be met by the owner of Marina, who kindly helped us into our 1st med-style berth (drop โš“๏ธ & reverse park in-between very expensive boats ๐Ÿ˜ฎ), then 2 days provisioning via local markets & shops... this was a unique & learning experience for us ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ต‍๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿค—,
    We met Ma, Pa & Julie @ โœˆ๏ธ very early on 31st, whisking them back to OtD to start our 2 week โ›ต๏ธ exploring of Raja assp.
    Week 1: Bantanta to Waigeo has been a blast with great company and stunning scenery (above & below water). We found & swam in the famous Blue River freshwater pools, blessed ๐Ÿ™Œ to have them to just ourselves โค๏ธ. We visited Waisai ( the main village of Raja), enjoying local markets & tea out before heading West to Friwin ๐Ÿ with all stops, & some in-between = snorkelling ๐Ÿคฟ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿฆˆ๐Ÿชผ๐Ÿก. Our guests report "abundance of fish & coral are amazing", " the oceans garden never ceases to amaze", "the colours of fish & coral are vibrant, iridescent & all colours of rainbow", "the varieties of soft coral are mind blowing" & " when the ๐ŸŒž is out the colours pop even more"..... so I guess we have satisfied customers so far ๐Ÿ˜€ . To ensure 5 ๐ŸŒŸ experience, we have also provided daily squalls, monsoonal ๐ŸŒง & the occasional bitch slapping (tide against wind rock-n-roll) so never a dull moment on board... thankfully the crews humour ๐Ÿ˜€ appears to still be positive.
    Fun facts...
    * Batanta ๐Ÿ is densely forested, & its hills rise high enough to almost always generate cloud. The jungles (with mangrove trees 35m high) are home to a wide range of endemic species & it is the only place in Raja where Cassowaries can be seen, along with scores of other uncommon bird species.
    * Kali Biru (Blue River) According to folklore, is known as the bathing place of Raja Waigeo Island & has a uniqueness that is always clear and blue, & will not be muddy even though it rains with high intensity.
    * Waisai on the island of Waigeo was founded in 2003, it is the capital of the Raja Ampat Regency and is home to a little over 8,000 people, it is a transit point for tourists & has, according to Ted & Dad, the BEST CHILLI MUD CRAB ever ๐Ÿฆ€ ๐Ÿ‘ !!!!!
