Day 1 Up we go

We were up at 5:30AM. It was cold and raining with poor visibility especially near and on the top of the mountain. We climbed about 5000 vertical feet to the top. As we were walking across the top of the mountain, I could swear I heard people in some rocks laughing at us. Maria didn’t hear them. I really wanted to climb up to the rocks to see if someone was there. The paths at the top of the mountain pass were doable for sure, but muddy, rocky, windy, with rain. About 7 kilometers from our destination we came across a Japanese Man (Hashimoto) holding up Donna who we met the day before. Donna couldn’t stand, we got her to an emergency shelter about the time she started to also become hypothermic. After about 2 hours of waiting for an ambulance (jeep) to arrive we made to our Albuergue after a 12 hour day, cold wet and tired. Beautiful, but a challenging day. We met Lisa and Ben, they were our bunk mates in the Albergue.もっと詳しく
