ViajeroLove this, and it brings it back so many memories. One of the things we enjoyed about getting up early was walking through a city like Lisbon or Porto before they woke up. Our first day was over 30 km and almost 100°. The shorter day sounds wonderful! Have a good rest tonight!

After yesterdays marathon of pavement walking, I had a choice of doing a 12 km stage or a 32. I decided to have an easy day and just do the 12. Tomorrow 20 to Santarem! I also knew that there would beLeer más
ViajeroLot's of action with tractors discing the fields getting ready tho. Very dusty!
Be sure to carry plenty of water on the way to Santarem. There is a long stretch of 16 km through farmland without water or places to rest. Try to stay at Hostel Santarem (host Mario). It's a great albergue and Santarem is a beautiful town with much to see. We had a rest day there. [Paul McLaughlin]

ViajeroYes! The owner is quite the character ! I bought a Portuguese Lisbon patch for my backpack from him which I'm grateful to have as I didn't find them in Santiago .We ate dinner at the chicken place next door, which was a great meal. The friends we made at that Alberghe became friends for life!

It was an uneventfull walk to Mealhada today. I met Jorge and his wife Charo from Argentina on the path tho. Jorge has done 9 caminos, and his wife 6! Lots of people in the albergue tonight.

ViajeroI'm glad to hear that locals are so inviting. They probably would have put you up for the night had you stayed.🤷♀️
ViajeroPortugese people are so kind in that way. We were walking in a heat wave and had run out of water when we were invited to a farm picnic. We had 5k more but imbibed with the locals and they even had Fado! One of the great experiences of my life but the last 5k was brutal.

It was an uneventfull walk to Gijo today. It was only 19 km's, and only 16 km's for tomorrow to get to Porto. Doing 35 all at once looked like too much. Especially since it was mostly road walking. ItLeer más
ViajeroI think that's the albergue we stayed in too. It was pretty skeezy when we were there. We had a traditional family meal next door which was fantastic. We wouldn't have known if the Portugese guy staying at the albergue hadn't have organized it.

ViajeroThat is also where we stayed our first night out of Porto. It was my wife's birthday and they threw a celebration for her. It happened to be a holiday so there were no restaurants or food around so they also cooked outside for us all. It was a great community meal and we met many pilgrims that had just started in Porto so our Camino family grew that night.
