    1. Day Ankara (at Night)

    August 14, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We landed in Ankara (affectionately pronounced Angara by the locals) 45 minutes after departure. As the airport is poorly connected, we took a Havasbus to the Otogar and from there a taxi to our accommodation in Cankaya.

The flat is spacious and includes a Jacuzzi in the sleeping area with an incredible view of Ankara.

I wanted to get a beer at the Tekel (Kiosk), but there is a ban on selling alcohol after 10 pm, so I went to a bar and drank it there.

  • 2. Day Ankara VII

    August 15, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

We ended the day with a good traditional Turkish meal at Rumeli. Ankara is known for their food with cutlets and stomach. Not for everyone, but I found it delicious.

  • 3. Day Ankara I

    August 16, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We decided against a trip to Kayseri, so we split the two days we gained between Ankara and Cappadocia.

Since we stayed one day longer in Ankara, we looked for a new accommodation 600 metres further away.

We went to Corbaci Hasan Usta for breakfast (delicious) and then to Anitkabir where the bones of Atatürk and Inönü lie.

In the evening we went for a drink in various bars (woodnote pub and 21) and actually wanted to go to a night club. Unfortunately, the clubs close between 1-2 pm during the week. Too bad, but it was still fun.

P.S.: This blog does not make any political statements and is not used for that purpose. We are merely documenting our experiences.

  • 2. Day Ankara I

    August 16, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Since we wanted to discover Ankara, we walked the first stretch. We first visited the Kocatepe mosque and had a Turkish breakfast in Cankaya. I charged my mobil with 30 GB for 145 Lt and then we took the metro line M 1-2-3 Kizilay to Ulus. Ulus is the historic old town of Ankara and contains many sights and museums.

We went to the Atatürk Museum first and then to the National Museum (Republic Museum).

Afterwards we went to the Museum of Anatolian Peoples and the Hittite Museum. On our way, of course, we visited the bazaar, the market hall and Anakara Castle.

    August 17, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Since I was hungry again in the evening, I went to Corbaci Hasan Usta again and had a princely meal.

  • 4. Day Ankara (Departure to Cappadocia)

    August 17, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We checked out in time at 11am and it would have taken us 1:30h to Otogar by public transport. So we decided to take a taxi. The ride took about 10-15 minutes and cost us 60 Lt, the equivalent of 3.30 €.

At the train station in Ankara it was like a bazaar, after getting some quotes we booked for the 12 o'clock ride. We were on the road for 3-4 hours with breaks.

Ankara surprised us in a positive way and we found the stay very pleasant. Great museums, good food and many good bars and night clubs.

    Thank you Ankara (Angara)!

    Next stop Göreme!
