    Train to Hellfire Pass and Raft Hotel

    A big buffet breakfast, then off to the train station to ride the train over the River Kwai bridge on the way to Nam Tok for lunch.
    Then on to the Hellfire Pass memorial centre - a very moving experience.
    Back along the railway to take photos of the next train coming along some of the wooden bridges along the rockface.
    Then onwards to our River Raft Hotel for the next two nights - quiet and relaxing with no power or phone reception. We had a yummy dinner and watched the local tribe cultural show.    Baca selengkapnya

    Lazy Day by the River

    Buffet breakfast with a visiting elephant, followed by relaxing with our feet in the river. Then we went to visit the local Mon tribe village, temple, school and viewpoint. Later on we put life jackets on and jumped into the river upstream and floated past our hotel room down to the other end of the hotel. The river was running rather fast, so getting out was a bit tricky, but we got better at it as we went along - great fun !!!
    Quiet lunch, then Gary and Derek went for a canoe ride downstream to another hotel.
    More floating adventures in the river, and another yummy dinner.    Baca selengkapnya

    Starting the journey home

    21 Juni 2019, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

    A relaxed start to the day, checked out of the Raft Hotel and caught a boat back to the pier to meet our minibus driver again. Stopped off at a cultural site, followed by temple of the day on the way back. Drove by Bangkok just before peak hours, then on to MEGA Bangna for dinner and some last minute shopping (Kate bought a new camera) then on to the airport for tearful goodbyes. Picked up our UK luggage from storage and got changed into travelling clothes after being in shorts/tshirts for the last week.
    Checked into our flight and struggled to stay awake until boarding time just before midnight.    Baca selengkapnya

    Finished the journey home

    We both slept on the overnight flight, and arrived back in cold/cloudy Melbourne at lunchtime. Sarah met us at the airport and drove us home - via Diamond Creek Maccas.
    The suitcases were emptied into the washing machine, although our jeans could have walked there themselves.
    Guess what we had for dinner - Sassy Thai !!!
    Collapsed into bed at around 10pm, and slept until almost 8am.    Baca selengkapnya

    So here we are after 56 days, approx 7000 driving kms, 27 hotel rooms, seeing friends that are dear to our hearts, and discovering new family. We are home and so very blessed that we got to go on this adventure together. We have seen things we never thought we would see and ticked off a few things on the bucket list. Google maps aside we didnt kill each other over directions lol. We hope everyone enjoyed our travels and pictures as much as we enjoyed doing it for you all.
