    On our way to the airport, fingers crossed for our two short layovers - an 1:15 in Seattle and an 1:30 in Narita. Not really gonna have a Sunday this week, but looking forward to snoozing in Kuala Lumpur late Sunday night local time. Onward to KL, Melaca, and Singapore!Read more

    KL, the quick stop

    Got in safe and sound around 1 AM last night. 2 nice relaxing baths at the downtown JW Marriott later, we caught some snoozes. Now wrapping up breakfast and heading out to find our rental car at Hawk Rental Car somewhere nearby - then, it's onward to Johor Bahru, most likely via Malacca for lunch. KL - we'll get to explore you a bit more properly towards the end of our trip!Read more

    Continuous Eating, Day ???

    Got to go down memory lane a little by journeying back to Jurong and hitting up a couple old favourite places last night (before seeing The Last Jedi at JCube). Lots of feels and lots of eating so far. Night Safari was awesome but the experience does not lend itself to good photos. Today, got some good katsu curry and are heading to the zoo again!Read more

    Zoo day. Best day.

    After a leisurely morning, that consisted of multiple meals, we were off to the zoo! This zoo is the only zoo I've been to that lets you get so close to the animals that you could touch them (could - not should!). Like the rainforest area - this huge atrium where you can walk right along side lemurs with huge fruit bats flying over your head (with 2 foot long wings!).

    Our zoo trip also brought us up close to our two favorites animals: giraffes for Danielle and tapirs for Igor.

    All in all a great day. Capped off with a couple cocktail bars and Din Tai Fung, a delicious Michelin star restaurant serving xiao long bao (steamed dumplings)!    Read more

    Today we got to experience a Chinese wedding and celebrate with friends. The day started with the "gate-crashing" where Derrick had to bribe, impress and convince Lynn's bridesmaids into letting him into the home/her room - something we had never experienced before. Then, a brief break before the solemnisation and then the ceremony at the Sheraton - everything was beautiful, including the 8 course lunch! Had some touristy time at MBS and Amoy Street after. Now - to Batam to spa!Read more

    Food and friends

    After a short ferry ride from Batam back to Singapore we spent the next few days eating and catching up with friends. We got to see Derrick and Lynn's new, beautifully renovated, HDB apartment in Seragoon and had a delicious cheese tart for dessert - which the wisconsinites obviously loved.

    We spent Wednesday eating more Xiao Long Bao, exploring the reservoirs and capped the day off with dinner at Haidilao with Igor's Jurong colleagues and friends. Haidilao is a famous Chinese chain, where they serve you snacks and offer free manicures to those waiting for a seat! And they provide you with aprons, phone chargers, and even cribs (if you have a sleepy baby) while you enjoy your tasty hotpot.    Read more

    Goodbye SG

    It's been real [delicious]. We've spent the past couple of days catching up with friends/former colleagues, walking around Singapore, and continuing our aggressive eating regime, culminating with a trip to Tonkotsu King on our way out. SG is just as amazing a place as I remember it being and I'm sad to leave it; however, Danielle and I are both very excited to make it to Siem Reap and see Cambodia. Onwards!Read more

    Tuk Tuk rides for days

    With 20,000 steps in all, we spent yesterday exploring the Temples of Angkor. Our day started with a 4 am wake up to see the sun rise behind Angkor Wat. We then explored Ta Prohm, the temple where much of Tomb Raider was filmed.

    In the afternoon we explored the massive grounds of Angkor Thom. From there we sought out less traveled temples and enjoyed the setting sun exploring temples just the two of us (and some stray dogs).

    We ended our day with delicious food, some local beer and a good book. Another great day in the books.

    Friendship with Igor ended, this dog is my best friend now

    First full day in Bangkok was headlined by a trip to Big Dog Cafe, where we, uh, hung out with a bunch of cute big dogs. Malamutes, borzoi, a couple of Central Asian Shepherds, plus others, were all very cute and friendly - they also had a bunch of smaller dogs, including 2 Cardigan corgi pups and a Pembroke Welsh corgi.

    Prior to that, we had some excellent cocktails @ Highball Bangkok. I had a (not pictured) delicious Penicillin, made with ginger-honey syrup (not lazily-muddled ginger then and there) and garnished with a ginger strip. Danielle had something resembling a Rose Gin Fizz sans the fizz, which besides being gorgeous, was delicious. Then, the dogs, and then a trip back to the hotel and dinner at the fancy-pants Japanese restaurant in the lobby/basement of the JW.

    At dinner, we split some tempura soba and got some Australian wagyu bites, plus a bunch of sashimi. Oh, the sashimi - these guys either fly it in from Japan (as they claim to do) or, at the very least, never freeze their fish. The difference between frozen vs.never frozen fish is stupendous, and most pronounced in sashimi. Om nom nom - we got some extra fatty tuna to top off our meal, which was worth it even at the $15-20/piece price point. Tomorrow, likely to do some more exploring and hit up one of the markets.     Last stop: Paradise

    With our trip coming to an end, we spent our last few days relaxing poolside, exploring limestone islands by longtail boat, and eating tasty food (as per usual).

    The Phulay Bay Marriott was great. Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, they also provide a 24 hour personal butler (ours was Khon Beet), who helped guide us through food and activity options throughout our stay.

    This afternoon we're off to Kuala Lumpur, and an early flight Saturday takes us home!    Read more
