    In the air

    10. februar ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Harrowing because we arrived late due to traffic and getting ready to go out taking a bit longer than expected... We were only 2h ahead of time instead of 3. Had to go through tourist refund to get the GST for the travel stroller back while Danny went to the lounge. Thankfully the line wasn't very long but by the time I made it to the lounge the flight was gate open...(1h before takeoff)

We scarfed down some food at the lounge then headed off just as the status changed to boarding.

SIA kinda disappointing, this plane is older. The service is ok, not super extraordinary, they're often busy with their tasks. Food was mid. No fruit for some reason?? Good thing i nabbed a green apple from the lounge. There is free wifi in air but very slow. Could not really discord. Funny enough could load endfield but couldn't actually spend sanity cos it would time out.

Bulkhead seats have legroom but I actually liked bracing against something lol. And at the start before the bassinet is put in, it's very hard to stuff a handbag under your chair! And then after there is reduced room. So oh well. Good to try the bassinet anyway.

Remi enjoyed watching Superkitties on the screen from time to time and she actually fit in the bassinet! She took a 1h nap in it (at her usual arvo nap time) but due to crappy turbulence we had to continue her nap in arms. Now waiting for last stretch of flight.

In terms of toys, we didn't have much room. She played briefly with the yoto but didn't really like the headphones. Playtabs were a surprising hit and entertained her for longer than I expected. Earplugs were useless and fell out soon after lol. We'd let her watch the plane screen a little but didn't have to resort to the iPad.

  • Dinner

    10. februar, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Low key dinner tapau by me from tanjong pagar Plaza which was mostly closed except for this small kopitiam - though I didn't actually go upstairs so I'm not sure but either way 8pm is earlier than I expected somehow! Bak chor Mee was suspiciously soupy but actually ended up very tasty. $4.50 each so I'm thankful still fairly affordable!Læs mere

  • Breakfast then off to bird park

    11. februar, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Today dawned a little sunny a little windy, fairly nice weather! Made me feel like singing that CNY song lol, chunfeng ta wen dao le wo de lian~~

We had a good breakfast at tanjong pagar Plaza. Carried the stroller up the stairs before realising there's a lift lol. Felt a bit bad for the veg meefen uncle cos he was old and bent. It was a decent portion for $4. Let Remi try a bit of the lime juice but she was not a fan haha.

Then it was off to the bird park! Pretty fun and multiple aviaries with air conditioned rooms between most of them which was appreciated. Weather forecast was scattered thunderstorms but it was only a bit cloudy! Danny says weather forecast is an art, not a science..

  • Early dinner at Khatib Central

    11. februar, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

After the shuttle bus brought us back to Khatib MRT station, we walked a little to the nearby Khatib central and had an early lunch. We were stuffed and Danny said I ordered too much. ($29 but the $7.80 Chinese Rojak was a rip-off)

Spent more time than we expected but didn't buy much, got a container of $12 Durian that was pretty mid. Sat down somewhere and wanted to eat it (cos Durian not allowed on train and they didn't have an eating place) and some old Chinese lady comes by and asks invasive questions. D: I was so uncomfortable. Couldn't really enjoy the durian sigh.

Headed to Bugis for the mofusand popup. Wanted to buy stuff but it was all so expensive. Got travel adaptors with USB though cos we bought travel adaptors but they don't have USB and the hotel doesn't have USB ports...

    19k steps today.

  • Singapore zoo

    12. februar, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

We were scared of the weather forecast so just in case these were the only two days of good weather we got, went to the zoo. Potentially dodgy tickets from trip.com thankfully worked out -- They were a bit too cheap. Breakfast at tanjong pagar Plaza again. Chicken rice was surprisingly good. Carrot cake was average. Kaya toast from stall yesterday was better.

The zoo itself was okay but a bit dated and very large. It was also quite hard to see the animals in some of the exhibits because they were on the far side and the exhibits tended to be quite overgrown. Remi sort of enjoyed it -- she would see an animal and then say more more to tell us to show her the next one but then she kind of fell asleep through the animal presentation which was quite funny because it was quite loud.

The macaques are a real problem because they target prams. We didn't realise the diaper bag was open under our stroller at first and a macaque nabbed a half eaten pack (but zipped locked) of freeze dried apple from it. We closed everything after that but still got harassed a few more times -- jumped up on me though thankfully it didn't hurt (I was wearing a dress) and swiped at Danny's leg while he was carrying Remi. (We had her walking for a bit but didn't dare to after the first macaque encounter) When he shooed at it it bared its teeth at him! Keepers had to tell stupid guests not to touch them. We spoke to a keeper and he said they are wild and not part of the collection, they are a problem but not much they can do about them except sometimes catch, sterilise, and release.

Not sure I'd recommend it, I think Taronga is better but I'm biased haha.

Dinner and satay supper from Khatib central again.

  • Chinatown

    13. februar, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Breakfast at Maxwell centre today. Kaya toast from 1950s was not so good bread wise (got soggy after a bit) though they used good butter. Danny said the kopi was good but I couldn't tell...Would not queue again, took ages cos just one person at the stall.

We walked to Chinatown to look around. Had durian again and this time it was so good, $10 (so cheaper than the other place which was $12) and super creamy, with a designated seating area. Just across from the Starbucks. Remi didn't want it this time! Wonder if it smelled strong to her.

Remi broke the clasp of two gold anklets from mom that my brother used to wear when he was a baby. Today I went to see how much a repair might be. I knew gold was expensive, but didn't know it was this expensive. 5 years ago it was 1/8 the price it is now. Fyi inflation in Singapore has only increased prices about 50% ie something worth $100 25 years ago is worth $150 now. Poh Heng was only able to do repairs on their own jewellery and couldn't find an identifying mark on the jewelry. Got a quote from a repairer that to reweld the clasp would be $35, or $310 to replace with a spring/parrot clasp. So we're... Not going to replace it at the moment..

I browsed Poh Heng's site and that's when I realised her anklets might be worth like $700 and $3.5k?? If I had known ahead of time I'm not sure if I'd have had her wear them lol!

Snack at Chinatown complex then walk back to hotel for a bit before heading out to meet Maria for dinner. :)
