    Berlin

    September 16, 2015 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

Berlin here we come! Its a slow start as we are a little dusty after our big weekend in Hamburg. We quickly discover though that Berlin is a much more culturally diverse and edgier city than Hamburg... We only saw 2 Porches the whole time we were here (as opposed to one at every street corner in Hamburg)! Our apartment in Neukolln is great- an artistic gem full of eclectic furniture and art, with the added bonus of being 5min walk to the old Templehof airport runway (now converted into a free public outdoor space) which turned out to be awesome and one of our favorite places in the whole city!

Ole and Claudia gave us some great tips for places to visit while we were here... We did our best to squeeze it all in to 3 days. We are not history buffs in any way however it was very fascinating learning about the history of the Berlin wall, visiting the monument and seeing the divide between east and west of the city. We also did a day trip out to Potsdam, a lovely little town where Claudia is from, to check out the famous castles there and also have a delicious lunch at "Chi Keng" Japanese restaurant.

Berlin was also a landmark moment for us as we both bought new shoes and said goodbye to our severely deteriorated hiking boots which had been with us every step of the way on our round the world journey... Goodbye boots!!
