    To Sud Lipez

    October 10, 2017 in Bolivia ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

From San Pedro de Quemes, we started our journey down South into Sud Lipez, a very high altitude region in the altiplano with many colorful lakes and amazing scenery.
Just a few kms from the town, we saw the ever so rare Rhea and a herd of Vicuñas.
Rheas are a species of flightless birds from the family of Ostriches and Emus. They are indeed very rare so this sighting was special.
Vicuñas are a species of camelids and similar to the llamas but very lean and agile. They look almost like african antelopes with an elongated neck.
The road South was a very isolated one with amazing landscapes around. We hardly saw any other vehicle on the way.
