Our next stop was Playa Ensenada. Its a beach on the shores of the lake Llanquihue with views of the Osorno and the Puntiagudo volcanoes. By the time we reached there, Osorno was fully covered withBaca lagi

We stopped on the way at one of the viewpoints of Osorno volcano. It was beautiful with a perfect conical shape covered with snow and the contrast of the jet blue colors of the lake.

We woke up around 10 am and had the breakfast at the cabaña. By the time we we ready to leave, it was 12:15 pm. We walked over to the church next door, spent some time there and then drove off fromBaca lagi
Puerto Varas dinner

After checking in, we walked dow to the town for some dinner. The church and the grotto looked extremely beautiful with the lights and candles on in the night. The dinner was soup and sandwiches. ByBaca lagi
Night at Puerto Varas

We decided to spend the night at Puerto Varas. The hotels were quite expensive near the beach so we decided to check some of them away from the coast. On the way to one of them, we passed the Gruta deBaca lagi
City of Roses

The volcanoes Osorno and Cabulco are on the shores of the lake Llanquihue but it was a bit cloudy so we couldn't see either of them clearly.

Puerto Varas

We reached Puerto Varas just before 8 pm and parked near the waterfront. Its a lovely lakeside town with a lot of German immigrants. A lot of houses had Chilean and German flags in their courtyards.Baca lagi
Huge shells on the beach

One special thing about the Chiquihue beach, was the size of the some of the shells. They were really big. Some of them were more than the size of the palm. We walked from one end of the beach to theBaca lagi

We took the car at around 4 pm. They had a buffer time of +3 hours so we would have to return it before 7 pm on the 2nd Jan. The plan was to drive to Puerto Varas but we had given our clothes forBaca lagi
Morning of planning

For the 1st time in 3 days it wasn't raining when we had our breakfast and went out to research about the tours and car rentals in this area. We visited the tourist information center where we gotBaca lagi
Back to the hotel

We walked around the town for a while more. We found a nice hotel with a pool on the top floor. The views were lovely but the restaurant was a bit expensive. We went around the town but couldn't findBaca lagi
To the ferry harbor

We walked all the way along the promenade, past the bus terminal, to the ferry harbor. Near the bus terminal, there were old steam engines displayed in the open area around. From the ferry terminal,Baca lagi
Promenade Puerto Montt

From the main square, we walked to the promenade and walked along the coastline. Luckily, it was not windy. There was some graffiti even here.
Walk in the town

It was still raining when we went out to town around 4 pm. Nothing was open. There was hardly anyone in the streets. We walked to the main plaza.
Christmas morning at Puerto Montt

We woke up a bit late and made it to the breakfast table just 10 minutes before closing. After the breakfast, Maria came over to our room with the Christmas goodies. We had some sweets and after that,Baca lagi

We walked all over the towm and didn't find anything open exca small shop selling alcohol and groceries. We bought some drinks and salty snacks for the night. None of the restaurants was open so weBaca lagi
A walk in the rain

We checked in and had our lunch in the restaurant of the hotel. After that we all went back to the rooms and took a short nap. When we woke up, it was still raining. We went down amd asked at theBaca lagi
Christmas preparations in Puerto Montt

On the way to the hotel we saw the Christmas tree, Santa and the crib. The town was decked up for Xmas. Ourselves hotel Don Luis was a lovely high rise. We got our rooms on the 6th floor.
Puerto Montt

It was raining in Puerto Montt. We took the bus to the city center to the bus terminal. Our hotel was about 1.5 km from the bus station so we decided to walk till there. The bus terminal is right onBaca lagi
Flying without passport and tickets

The flight departure was at 8 am so we woke up early around 5 and got ready. We ordered a taxi to the airport. While we waited for the taxi to arrive, we picked up some of the food stuff from theBaca lagi
Shopping for lost stuff again

The flight bookings didn't go as smoothly as we thought it would. There were 3 seats available for 200 sek while if we tried to book for 4, we were getting a price of 700 sek per person. We decided toBaca lagi
Back to Santiago

We woke up early and were ready to leave by 8:30 am. The owner of the hotel (Saint Tropez, Viña del Mar) was there and we showed her our booking price. She tried to convince us about the extra taxesBaca lagi
Dinner at Viña del Mar

We walked back towards the area along the promenade where there were a lot of restaurants. We checked them all out and decided to go to a Chilean one. The food was fantastic. It was almost 10:30 pmBaca lagi
Night at Viña del Mar

As it became darker, the lights started coming on. We walked all the way to the end of promenade. There is a quay here. From here, we could see the full coastline towards Valparaiso. It lookedBaca lagi
Sunset at Viña del Mar

We walked along the promenade enjoying the setting sun and the lovely sea breeze. It was a really pleasant walk. The sea seemed to be quite rough with the waves crashing on to the rocks next to theBaca lagi
Viña del Mar

Viña del Mar is about 6 kms from Valparaiso and is the place where all the rich people from Valparaiso have their villas. The city is nicknamed 'Garden City' for its many parks and flower-filledBaca lagi
