    More sights in the jungle

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

After lunch, we set off again into the jungle. This was a different route than the one we had taken the previous day. We saw some bird nests with babies. Miguel also showed how to use the root of the palm tree to calm the itching of the insect bites.
On the way, when we were thirsty, we stopped and drank from the Cat's Claws tree again.
We also saw a snake's burrow where some animal had thrown the eggs out.

    Tarantulas

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

The walk continued deeper into the forest. We came across the plant of Hakka Hakka a hallucinogenic species. Miguel showed us how to use it to get a high. The plant needs to be scraped just above the root to get the smell and then to inhale it deeply.
We also saw huhe trees that form the main canopy of the rainforest.
In an area near a stream, we saw many tarantula burrows. Miguel tried coaxing out some of them by simulating some movement near the hole mouth. We saw 3 of them. One of them was as big as the palm of my hand.

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

After a few more minutes of walking we were back at the main camp by around 3:15 pm.
It was extremely hot and there was absolutely no wind at all. Back in the camp, we decided to go for a swim in the river. The water temperature was in the mid 20s but felt very refreshing in the sweltering heat. We enjoyed the swim for about 45 min before going back to the camp.Читать далее

    The lord of the ring

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

Back at the camp, we started with the artwork we had been planning to do. The 1st up was a ring made from the small coconut.
The coconut was sawed into ring size cylinder. Then it was smoothed on all the sides and the edges with sand paper. We used 3 different fineness in the sand papers to get a real smooth finish.
After that, a little bit of ash from the cigarette was used to give it a shiny black finish.
There you have it, the ring was ready.

    Necklace time

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

After the ring, it was time for the necklace. The other variety of coconut with multiple holes in it was used for this.
The coconut was sawed into a ring. The coconut pulp was removed from the 3 inner rings. Then it was the same procedure with smoothening of the sides and the edges with 3 different fineness of sand paper. After that the minor coconut pulp strands from the holes near the edges was removed by tapping on them. In the end, the wood was polished by rubbing the coconut pulp to give it a shine.
After that we, passed the thread through the rest of the beads. The last part was the forming of the thread knots between the beads to hold them in place and to space them as well. For this, we had to tie one end of the string to a tree branch and the other to our belt buckle and stretch it while we used the hands to loop the thread pattern. The end result was a fantastic tribal necklace.

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

After the necklace, it was time for the tattoos. Miguel used the ink we had prepared earlier during the day to make tattoos on our upper arms. The ink was blue and is supposed to last for 10-15 days.

    The night safari

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ 🌙 33 °C

After the dinner, we went out to the jungle again for a night trek. It was pitch datka nd besides the cacophony of sounds from the insects and some birds there was complete silence.
We saw a huge spider spinning its web right next to the path. Miguel told us that it was an extremely poisonous species.
Then we saw some baby caymens in the lake nearby, their eyes shining in the glow of the torchlight being reflected by their eyes. Miguel managed to catch one of them amd we took turns holding it to feel the skin before releasing it back into the lake.
During the trek, we also saw a poisonous bull frog. It is quite huge, almost as big as a palm of the hand. Wr also saw a green poison dart frog which has poison on its skin. The indigenous people use the poison to make their darts more dangerous when hunting.

    Wild boar

    26 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Suddenly while walking, Miguel turned off his torch and instructed us to so the same. We stood there in complete darkness and tried to hear through the jungle sounds for anything unusual. Sure enough, we heard some noises in the undergrowth nearby. We stealthily walked towards the noise without lights. When we turned on the lights, we were directly staring at a medium sized wild boar. It seemed to have damaged its nose and eyes since even after 5-6 min of us switching on the lights, it still didn't realize we were there. Miguel guess that it could be due to some poisonous frog peeing on his face during an encounter.
After the walk, we were back at the camp to sleep early since we had to leave back to Rurrenabaque at 6 am the next morning.

    Off to Rurrenabaque

    27 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

After getting up at 6 am, we quickly freshened up and were off to Rurrenabaque by 6:30 am. Tge sun just rising above the forest trees and there was still a slight fog just above the water of the river. It was a mesmerizing sight.
3-4 min into the journey, our boat got stuck in the shallows so Miguel had to jump overboard to correct the course of the boat. Otherwise, it was a scenic but uneventful trip back.

    Back at Rurrenabaque

    27 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We stopped on the way to pick up some of the locals near Rurrenabaque.
Once at Rurrenabaque, we went to the French bakery where we had our breakfast. We barely had the time to collect our washed laundry and repack for the next 3 day's trip to the pampas. We didn't get a chance to shower or wash up. Luckily, the bus tickets to La Paz were available in the Escorpion Agency itself, so we bought our tickets for the evening of our return on the 29th Oct.
Then we were off... To the Pampas!!!

    To Santa Rosa

    27 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 35 °C

We started from Rurrenabaque at about 9:15 amd and after a journey of almost 4 hours, we arrived at Santa Rosa. The road was mainly dusty and looked like being built into a 2 way highway. We had a short stop over of about 15 min at the halfway point.
Santa Rosa is the gateway to the pampas. From here on the journey is in speed canoes that can seat upto 10 people. We were 8 people including the driver in our boat. All the tour operators reach here and leave from here almost at the same time.

    Off up the Yacuma river

    27 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 35 °C

After waiting for almost 30-40 minutes, we were off up the Yacuma river. This part is of the Amazon is very rich in plant and animal life. Within the first 30 minutes, we had seen more animals than we had seen in the past 3 days in the jungle. They all seem to converge at the river shores.
We saw, Capibaras, Caymans, Egrets, Cormorants, Kara Karas, Black Cayman, Coati and many more in our 2 hours of ride towards the refuge.

    The Escorpion Lodge

    27 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ 🌬 34 °C

Around 5:15 pm, we reached the Escorpion Lodge. After 3 days in the jungle with no running shower, this place with a shower, a towel and soap seemed like a luxury.
We both had a nice long anticipated shower. Oooo it was good to have this luxury after a long time. The lodge was perfect.
15 min after arrival, we got fresh orange juice and some popcorns.
The guide explained us the plan for the next 2 days.
