• Darwin to Singapore

    April 4 in Singapore ⋅ 🌧 81 °F

It’s on to country #3 - Singapore! Which also marks the start of the Southeast Asia portion of our adventure. We had an early afternoon flight out of Darwin on a new airlines to us, Qantas. We enjoyed the new selection of movies and Chels was impressed with the meal and wine that was included. Once we arrived in Singapore it was a breeze getting through customs. We happened to arrive in the terminal that exits into the Jewel, which is a massive indoor waterfall. We spent a good hour wandering around and enjoying the views. As it changed from day to night the light show started which was even more impressive. To get to our hotel we used Grab for the first time (Asia’s version of Uber) which worked great. We were surprised by how few cars were on the road. On our way in we drove past a lively food hall (which they call hawkers here) and decided to walk back for a bite before bed. Turns out this was a pretty old and popular one called Lau Pa Sat. It’s been operating for 130 years! There was live music, lots of people, and lots of food options - it was all a bit overwhelming in the best way. We landed on black carrot cake (which is actually made with radish), fried Char Kway Teow which is a noddle dish, lime juice and mango peach juice. All of it was delicious!Read more
