Exploring Singapore
April 5 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 88 °F
Well today was a doozy! We spent the day walking 24,000 steps to cover most of the sights we wanted to see in Singapore.
We started the day with a quick prepackaged snack from 7/11(they are gourmet in Asia!) and then made our way to Singapore’s Chinatown. In Chinatown we saw a very cool Buddhist temple, and we stopped at Hawker Chan for lunch. This was the cheapest Michelin starred meal in the world at $7! And the first hawker(street food) in the world to receive a Michelin star.
Next we stopped at a durian stall to try this amazing fruit. It’s quite stinky and hard to eat, so you wear plastic gloves. It’s also very expensive! Around $30-40 per fruit serving. It was delicious and very fun to try!
Following the durian, we explored cafe monochrome, which was a 2dimensional themed cafe. Next we tried Kopi, which is traditional Singapore coffee- it’s a black thick coffee mixed with condensed milk, that is surprisingly sweet. We loved it!
After indulging, we made our way to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which is a massive 4 level temple with a garden on the roof. There were museum exhibits and art pieces to check out, so this was a really fun experience.
Next we made our way to the more touristy parts of Singapore to check out some of their modern marvels. First we went to gardens by the bay which is a massive indoor garden that is fully air conditioned. While this was impressive, our next stop the cloud forest was mind blowing. This was an indoor waterfall that you can scale via elevator, surrounded by orchid gardens, art, and beautiful set pieces.
Following the indoor gardens and forest, we explored the supertree observatory, which was a forest of man made metal supertrees that light up, and have natural vegetation growing up them. We took a lift to the top of these, where you could walk a bridge connecting them. Another lift took us to the top of the biggest one, for incredible views of the city.
Next we explored Marina Bay Sands(the giant surfboard hotel Singapore is known for) and their massive mall which has indoor gondolas. We took the metro from here to the newton food court for dinner- this was the food court from the movie crazy rich Asians, so it was fun to relive that scene!
Next we made our way to little India to check out the Indian portion of town- and saw another really unique Buddhist temple.
Finally we made our way to Clarke Quay where a thunder and lightning storm started, so we hunkered down and enjoyed some local brews!
To end the night we ate at the food court by our hotel lau pa sat, and then called it a night!Read more

Remember all of the 7/11’s in Hong Kong?
TravelerI sure do! That’s why we stopped in for a snack. Not quite as nice as the ones in Japan but still much nicer than the US
