Exploring Singapore day two
April 6 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 90 °F
Today we explored Singapore for a second day; now that we had our bearings of the city we opted to start the day with brunch and kopi at the Lau Pa Sat market near our hotel.
Following this we opted to take the subway to the Kampong Glam neighborhood to see the pretty buildings and mosque. The area was beautiful, but we were way too hot, so we left the area and opted to come back at night for dinner.
We decided to take the train to the National Museum of Singapore for an air conditioned activity, and really enjoyed their exhibits explaining Singapore’s history. After world war 2 they actually joined with Malaysia for four years before splitting off again!
Following the museum, we went to Singapore’s massive botanic gardens, and adventured through their lovely orchid exhibit. Chelsea loved this portion as orchids are her favorite flower- the colors were astounding!
Next we headed back to Kampong Glam for dinner. The area was beautiful at night, but the restaurants had aggressive salespeople outside trying to draw walkers into the restaurants which we found really annoying. We decided to still try one simply due to the beauty of the street, but it ended up being a major tourist trap(and they then added multiple additional service fees to the bill). It was a good learning experience, and that will be our first and only meal in one of the heavily touristed areas with pushy salespeople.
After dinner we headed to Marina Bay Sands for the view from the rooftop(56 floors up) and the see the light show in the bay by night. This was super impressive, and felt like a more impressive version of the water and light show in Vegas.
After enjoying the views from the roof, we walked down to the super tree grove to see those at night as well, and loved all of the bright colors and the scale of the views!
Finally we headed home, and tomorrow we fly to Malaysia!Read more
