Cotswolds & Glastonbury Tor

Today we headed back to The Cotswolds to visit Castle Combe, and visited Glastonbury and Glastonbury Tor.

We started our day with breakfast at our Airbnb, and then started on a long driving day out of Wales and back into England. Our first stop was Castle Combe in The Cotswolds, which we’d read was the prettiest city in this region, and it was near our route down to the southern part of England(Cornwall). Castle Combe was indeed incredibly cute, and had a picturesque stream running through it. It was a tiny village so we didn’t stay long(and it was very similar to other villages we’d seen like Lacock).

Next we drove to Glastonbury, where we hiked up a large hill outside town to see Glastonbury Tor. Apparently this is the remaining tower of an old church, and it is significant in the legend of King Arthur. We enjoyed the hike due to the epic views of the city and surrounding countryside it afforded.

After the hike we enjoyed exploring the town. We’d heard of the Glastonbury music festival, but didn’t realize how much of a hippy scene this area was. On our hike back into town we passed a large drum circle, and the streets were filled with people wearing either hippy attire, or really interesting outfits(we saw a group of vampire pirates for example). The town itself had really neat old architecture, and we opted to eat dinner in a pub built in the 1400’s!

After dinner we had yet more driving, until we arrived at our BnB for the night in Camelford. It was a solid six hours of driving today, so we called it a night with more exploration tomorrow!Read more
