    Lake Sørvágsvatn, Drangarnir

    Today we hiked around Lake Sørvágsvatn to the Slave Cliffs(cliff Vikings used to push slaves from), and took a boat tour around the Drangarnir rock formation.

    We started our day with breakfast and coffee at our Airbnb, and then headed out to hike around Lake Sørvágsvatn. This lake is super unique as it is right above the ocean, with caves carved into the rock underneath it. It looks like an optical illusion, with water directly above water, and both being different shades of blue. We hiked the perimeter of the lake to the ocean, where we were rewarded with views of the lake set against the ocean, and water running from the lake into the ocean. We also hiked up the nearby mountains for top down views.

    After the hike we headed next to the nearby town of Sørvágur, where we met with our boat tour. We suited up in waterproof clothing and then hopped aboard. The tour took us back to the Múlafossur waterfall which we’d seen from land on the first day. It was cool seeing it from this new angle! Next the tour took us to the Drangarnir rock formation and nearby sea arch. This mountain was crazy impressive, and looked otherworldly! It was actually used as Nederland in the most recent Peter Pan movie, as well as the island in the recently released How to Train Your Dragon. The sea arch beside the mountain was also very cool, and our captain steered us through it!

    After the boat tour we headed home, for another home cooked meal.    Read more
