Arriving in Norway

Today we traveled from the Faroe Islands to Bergen, Norway.

We started our day with breakfast and coffee at our Airbnb, and then headed to the airport(which was an hour or so away). We did a bit of work at the airport, and then enjoyed a short 1.5 hour flight to Bergen.

Once we arrived in Bergen we checked into our hotel, and then walked into town. Our first stop was a local fish restaurant where we got to try a number of Norwegian dishes such as Bacalao(a tomato based fish stew) and fish cakes. After dinner we walked through the local fish market, and then took the funicular to the top of the nearby Mt. Fløyen. Here we were afforded excellent views of the city and harbor, and we were also entertained by the local goats!

After enjoying the views we rode the funicular back down, and headed to the Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf. This was an old part of town, consisting of brightly painted wood buildings with narrow alleys between them. The entire area was super cute, and you could really get a sense of the areas harbor history.

Next we checked out a couple of cute older streets across the harbor, Knosesmauet street, and Ytre Markeveien. These were residential neighborhoods where we checked out the architecture, and enjoyed getting a sense for the city’s past. As a final stop we checked out the Bergen Cathedral, which was a cool old church with a cannonball lodged in the wall from a bygone conflict with the English.Read more
