Pulpit Rock

Today we hiked up to Pulpit Rock, and travelled to Stavenger.

We started our day with breakfast and coffee at our hotel, and then hit the road for a long drive to Pulpit Rock. The drive was around five hours, and involved not one but two sea ferries, as Norway is very spread out and filled with islands along the coastline. The drive was peaceful, and filled with gorgeous countryside to look out at. The sea ferries were also very relaxing, as the ferries had an upstairs seating area with comfortable chairs, a cafe, and panoramic windows to look at the ocean and islands passing by. One super interesting thing about the ferries here is that they are incorporated into the road itself. You literally drive right on, and right off, the road deadends into the mouth of the ferry. Because of the sheer volume of islands, a huge part of travel here is either the ferries, or underwater tunnels(just like in the Faroe Islands).

When we arrived at Pulpit Rock for the hike we were greeted with a storm. There was quite a bit of rain, but we opted to do the hike regardless. It stormed off and on throughout the hike, and we got quite soaked! When we eventually reached the top, the view was unfortunately obscured by thick fog and cloud cover. We tried to wait out the storm hoping for the view, but it got progressively worse and it was starting to get late so we headed back down.

Our next stop was the city we will be staying in the next two nights, Stavenger. We stopped at an Ethiopian restaurant on our way into town, and then headed to our hotel for some well deserved sleep!Read more
