Kjeragbolten Hike

Today we hiked Kjeragbolten, one of the most epic hikes in Norway!

We started our day with breakfast and coffee at the hotel, and then headed out to Kjeragbolten which was around 2.5 hours away. Upon arriving at the hike we were ecstatic to see that it was cloudy with hints of sun, and no rain. We started the hike, which was actually quite challenging. Significant portions of the hike were over steep rock that was still slick from yesterday’s rain, and the only way to climb them was to use a chain that was mounted into the path. We had a couple of slips as we made our way up, but eventually made it to the midway point where the hike leveled out on a plateau. Up here there were tons of small ponds, and really pretty deep red grass. It was also super windy!

We continued on until we reached a chasm which signaled we were near the end. The chasm had a number of waterfalls running into it, and a small river running through. We hiked through the chasm to the end, whereupon we saw a bolder wedged between two mountains, which was the climax of the hike! Chris hopped on top for a picture, and then we explored the cliff edge which gave us absolutely stunning views of the fjord below from in between two massive cliff faces. The hike back was mostly uneventful, although Chris did slip at the very end and cut his hand.. we were within sight of the car so we were so close! We did our 2.5 hour drive back to the hotel and called it a night after a long hiking day.Read more
