    Zermatt & the Matterhorn

    Today we explored the town of Zermatt, and hiked around the Matterhorn for epic views of this majestic mountain!

    We started our day with coffee and breakfast at our hotel(cooked in our apartment kitchen!) and then took the train to Zermatt(they don’t allow drivers in, and tourists can only enter via train).

    Once in Zermatt we explored a bit, before taking the gondola up to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. This was the highest viewpoint possible, and gave us panoramic viewpoints of not only the Matterhorn, but also the surrounding mountains. There was a ton of snow on the mountaintops, and 8 of the 27 ski runs were even open! One other awesome thing we got to do up here was explore an ice cave carved by humans into the glacier. Inside there were massive tunnels of ice, filled with ice sculptures, and even an ice slide! We stopped at a viewpoint halfway down on our way back and got a ton of good pictures at the Matterhorn’s base.

    Next we explored Zermatt further, and then took a train to Gornergrat to hike the Riffelsee Trail down the mountain. This trail gave us excellent views of the Matterhorn from a new perspective, and was a ton of fun to hike. After the hike we trained back to Zermatt, and then trained home from there.
