Oeschinensee Panorama Trail

Today we traveled to Interlaken by car train(yes it was as wild as it sounds), and hiked the Oeschinensee Panorama Trail.

We started our day with breakfast and coffee at the hotel, and then hit the road towards Interlaken. On our way from Täsch we drove through some beautiful countryside, until we arrived at the Lotschbert Tunnel Train. This was a train that we actually drove onto, similar to the ferries in Norway. The train was insane. Around 50 cars drove on, and then the train took off at an intense speed through a very long tunnel. We felt like the train was easily going 80mph, and we were flying through a black tunnel as our car swayed back and forth with us sitting in it. All in it took around 15-20 minutes, which is a very long tunnel!

After the tunnel the train stopped, and we were able to drive off having arrived at our destination. We’d arrived at the town of Kandersteg, and we parked here and took a gondola to the start of the Oeschinensee Panorama Trail. This was a beautiful 5 mile hike taking us up and partly around an opaque blue lake that had a very cool fluorescent color. We got a stellar workout in and a ton of pictures!

After the hike we drove to Interlaken, and watched the paragliders land in the grass in the center of town. In just two days we’ll get to try this! We walked to a local spot to try Swiss food for dinner… and we weren’t impressed. It was $130 for hashbrowns with eggs and meat/veggies on top for the three of us (a Swiss dish called Rosti) so this country has officially taken the mantle for most expensive place we’ve visited! It’s not that the food was bad per se, but that it is just so ridiculously overpriced for what it is that it’s hard to enjoy.
