      Alton Towers THEME PARK!

      28 mai, Angleterre ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Alton Towers Resort is a theme park and resort complex in Staffordshire, England, near the village of Alton. The park is operated by Merlin Entertainments Group and incorporates a theme park, water park, mini golf, and hotel complex.

We all had a good sleep, good brekkie, and we are off for the day. We're road tripping in two cars. "Team, Boys" and "Team Girls"

I should mention that the obstacle we have today is the rain. It's not torrential. However, it's joining us 😬

First, we went to the cbeebies area for the kids, and we tried the pirate ship. Later, we took a stroll around the park and had our picnic lunch, with a show. Andy, Ben, Mal, and I tried to get ourselves on a roller coaster ride. Successful, even though we waited in line for an hour, we hopped on the ride called "Thirteen," which was awesome 👌 very thrilling! Ben and I can now say we have gone on our first ever roller coaster. Next, Mal and I hopped on Oblivion, which was a short yet explosive ride with a shear drop into a hole.

We had a look in the SharkBait Reef and saw some amazing sea life. We grabbed a light refreshment, hit the arcade for a bit, and then went to the gift shop before we got back on the road to come home.

It was a wonderful day. We are wet, cold, and tired, but many core memories have been made. The Crilly, Knight, Howey, Wade Clan have dominated Alton Towers 2024.

      Manor Park and visiting Fam

      19 mai, Angleterre ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Out for a walk and a bit of mini golf at Manor Park. Brilliant weather for it!

Later, we head to Auntie Enids and Uncle Terry's for a cuppa and had a good catch up while the boys went and checked out Uncle Terrys Games shed. Pool, air hockey, foosball, ping pong, and darts. I couldnt go without a game myself so, a match of pool started with my Uncle Terry. England vs. New Zealand. It was pretty nec and nec, but I can happily say NZ won!En savoir plus

Snacks and Treats along the way! Ep.1

      20 mai, Angleterre ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

These are all the things we have tried so far. 😀

Frazzels - They are like crispy, crunchy bacon flavor bites. Kind of remind me of Rashuns

Eccles Cake - An Eccles cake is a small, round pie, similar to a turnover, filled with currants and made from flaky pastry with butter, sometimes topped with sugar.

Mini Cheddars - Oven baked with strong cheese flavor. It's kind of like NZs Cheddar Shapes

Maryland Minis - yummy little bikkies with a soft, crummy biscuit and big chocolate chunks

Bueno - we get these in NZ. Same chocolate as the Kinda Suprise

Hula Hoops - by far, my favorite. They come in a range of flavors like cheese and onion, salt and vinegar, and beef, but my favorite is the original. Salted flavor. 😋

Pains Au Chocolat - Soft and flavourful pastry that's produced in France, Pains Au Chocolat are a baked pastry filled with chocolate 🍫

Warburtons crumpets - they are a bit thicker than the ones at home, but they taste the same. A crumpet is a crumpet

Twiglets - I actually don't mind them. They have a cracker like texture shaped like a 'twig' covered in what almost tastes like Marmite. They are more'ish

Mr Kipling Cakes - 🤤🤤🤤 they come in all sorts of flavors, and they are usually colored by their flavoring. Strawberry has pink icing, lemon has yellow icing, and so on, so forth. They have a soft sponge inner with a small filling of flavored cream. Delish.

Monster munch crisps - these are like Cheezels in NZ, but their flavors are way different. You have a spicy flavor, pickle and onion, and beef. I like the beef the most.

Snack Rocks - literally popping candy sugar. Ben loved. I'm not too keen

TAYTO Crisps - Again, come in a variety of flavors, but if you want a basic chip, get the ready salted. You can't go wrong.

Cadbury Snack - chocolate covered vanilla biscuit. Simple, yet yummy.

Jacob's McKado Fury biscuits - Vanilla base, marshmello, strawberry jam, and coconut. Yummy 😋

      Day 2

      11 avril, Angleterre ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

The second day at Alton was brighter and busier but saw all of us riding.

We eased in with Fabio's Fandango then spun onto Rita. Caroline had enough by this point but the boys continued onto Nemesis Reborn and Oblivion.
Some afternoon downtime walking through the Aquarium before ending the day on Galactica.

      Day 1 in the park

      10 avril, Angleterre ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

We set off mid-morning for our first day in the park which looked to be wet and wild.

Coen immediately headed for the most extreme ride: The Smiler, 14 loop roller coaster (dragging his dad with him) while R&C checked out the rest park.

We met up for lunch with Rigo and Caroline clocking the steps and Coen and Jamie Oblivion before heading to the Curse of Alton Towers. The parties got separated at this point but finally got together for a Wickerman adventure and so Coen and Jamie could do Nemesis, Oblivion and Rita before heading back to the cottage.

    • Adorable Ashbourne 🧶

      15 juin 2022, Angleterre ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Not a hitch catching the train 🚆 from Kings Cross International station 🚉 So glad I wasn’t heading to Paris on Eurostar: the lines were so long and there were a lot of angry 😤 Parisians …karma I say! 😜😇🐌 Sorry 😞 Not sorry 🐸

I had a reserved seat 💺 which was a pleasant surprise because I didn’t do that when booking 🤷🏻‍♂️ Obviously not complaining though…

You know what? This trip took a shitload of reading, researching & revision. I spent hours comparing & mapping, googling and clarifying. I enjoyed every minute of it and it has paid off in spades ♠️ rewarding me with probably the best and most comprehensive, enjoyable and exciting holiday I have EVER had! I’m really chuffed it has been so full & fun. Not just jam-packed with fun activities but plenty of downtime & mindfulness too! 🕺🏼

Probably the only aspect I may have missed could be the “Queer” element. Yes, I could’ve spent more time on gay 🌈 apps or hanging around bars, but my life experience has shown me that often (not always) leads to time wasted and hollow emptiness so I don’t regret that for a minute! The couple of times I did partake was on my own terms and with a joyful, inclusive heart ❤️ 🧡💛💚💙💜 Many friends have questioned this aspect and I remain firm in my belief that my holiday has been no less enjoyable without it! To quote a bigger Diva than me: “…I am what I am…I bang my own drum 🥁 some think it’s noise, I think it’s pretty!” ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻

The train 🚂 ride up to the Peak District was so comfortable and relaxing. Not crowded and no screaming kids or annoying people. I’d recommend it to anyone. Thanks 🙏 so much to Steven for introducing me to the App TRAINLINE. It has been invaluable in not only booking but extremely easy and efficient to organise refunds or changes also. It even organises the absolute best value ticket 🎫 Sometimes that may be a split ticket and you don’t need to understand what it means you need only be grateful for the internal program that works it out for you! I’ve used it in Italy as well and worked just as well there when actual station 🚉 staff were either not available or just assholes! 😜🐷

Steven was waiting for me at the railway station when I arrived which was lovely. It was so nice to catch up with him and Richard again. I was so excited to see the English countryside. It was so cute and beautiful. The landscape, the buildings, the history in everything was amazing. I could feel another element of this adventure building just by looking at the bunting and the flags all hanging out to celebrate the Jubilee! 🥰🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Just look at the knitted 🧶 ‘caps’ for the post boxes the locals have made 🧶for the Jubilee celebrations! How cute is the one representing the Queen and all the corgis? Reminded me of my grandmother and how she used to knit the nativity scenes and jumpers for us. So country, so cute ❤️❤️❤️

Ashbourne was instantly welcoming & adorable! We had dinner in one of the local pubs (George & the Dragon 🐉) which is at least 300 years old, as are most of the buildings, or older. I tried many local beers 🍻 and I finally tried scampi 🍤 with mushy peas and home-made chips 🍟 So delicious! The people in the three pubs we went to were very friendly and I instantly felt ‘homely’🍺🥰 and at home 🏠

Richard and Steven’s house is lovely and extremely comfortable. It is like a little slice of luxury in the country! I’ve always loved the English countryside and this afternoon confirmed that! 🐄🌳🌻⛰🏠🇬🇧

They hold a football game where the shops and businesses board up their windows and hundreds of people come from all around to play this game within the entire town. To be honest, I still don’t quite understand it but it sounds very intriguing! I’ll learn more tomorrow!

Very grateful 😇 for this opportunity to discover more of the UK 🇬🇧 through the very fortunate coincidence of making friends with Steven a few years back through the social group I ran prior to Covid has come full circle to allow me this exciting new experience 🕺🏼❤️🇬🇧🥰🙏💪🏻✊🏻

      Thor's Cave

      9 avril, Angleterre ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

Not wanting to miss out on the Peak District countryside we embarked on a circular route from Wetton to see Thor's Cave and stepping stones.

We passed 2-3 groups giving up on the route as the weather got wetter and wetter and plodding through stickier and slippier mud. We made it up to the cave but after a fall from Jamie, Caroline and Rigo we decided the sensible decision was to head for home.

We de-robed and warmed up with Coen and Rigo's first stock-cube tea. After lunch we built an under stair fort then watched a movie (War with Grampa).

      Anreise zur Southland Farm, Gunnerton

      16 septembre 2023, Angleterre ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

British at its Best!

A Day in rhe Peak District

      19 septembre 2019, Angleterre ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

A fabulous day. Met Gill and Bob for breakfast and they had worked out a plan for the day - our one full day together. Instead of wandering round Buxton, they took us round the area in the car, visiting and passing through so many picturesque villages - stone houses, pretty gardens - going on 2 walks - one beside a small stream and at the end of the day we went up to a high rocky edge which we walked up and what a wonderful view from the top over the whole countryside. And again it was perfect weather! After starting quite cold in the morning (about 10° I think) it warmed up until we only needed t-shirts walking in the sun. Then deliciously cools off again after sunset. This wonderful weather now makes me nervous for what will be in store for us next week!

A highlight of the day was a visit to Chatsworth - the Stately Home and estate of the dukes of Devonshire. It is in this area so we drove in and parked and walked round the grounds. It is enormous and you can pay quite a lot and visit inside the house and garden, but that would be a serious several hours, so we walked and admired from outside.

One small town we stopped in was Bakewell, very pretty, where we bought cheese and had a tea break, with their local specialty Bakewell tart, and we stopped for a beer and nibbles before we did the walk up the ridge. So we were nicely hungry when we returned to Buxton and had a Thai meal. We had seen the restaurant last night and that it was busy and full so thought we’d try it. Excellent, and now ready for bed.

    • Charming Chatsworth & Bakewell

      16 juin 2022, Angleterre ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

      Leisurely road trip today… 🚗

We went to the beautiful & historic Chatsworth Manor Home. Well, it’s really a Palace. It has been in Pride and Prejudice series and movies. It is also featured in the Crown 👑 for the inside shots representing Buckingham Palace. We could see, feel, hear & breath the atmosphere. 🥰

The gardens around it were spectacular and the inside was so opulent and palatial. It was a really hot 🥵 day today and walking around made us all extremely tired. It was actually uncharacteristically hot, so I was told. Unlike what I’ve heard and dread 😬 about Melbourne currently 😢😢

We threw down a rug and had a lovely picnic in the gardens ☀️🌸 overlooking the house which was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. We collected delicious treats from Marks and Spencer and a homemade pork pie with chutney before heading to Chatsworth. Some facts: Diana Spencer’s Great, great, great, great aunt was a former Duchess of Devonshire and the current Duke and Duchess still live in this home. There is an eclectic mix of furniture within the house; period pieces are mixed with very modern Art and Bespoke features… Check out the amazing bed in one shot! They had to remove a window to get it inside the bedroom.

Queen Victoria stayed in this Manor home twice, once when she was 13 and once when she was queen. Queen Mary has also stayed in the house. It was such a chilled out and relaxing day 🇬🇧🦆☀️

On the way home we stopped at Bakewell which is famous for the Bakewell tart… I bought some to try tonight. I really enjoyed the flaky pastry tart with jam in the bottom of it. I also bought a treacle tart 😋 Bakewell is another historic town which is very cute but not as cute as Ashbourne in my opinion.

I loved the ducks coming up to us while we were having a picnic and cheekily eating the sandwiches from my knees! 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
