      Redcar

      June 5, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Moving down the coast we caused havoc in Alnwick - we went in search of a filling station and the GPS took us down the main street - unfortunately at the end of it there is a very low arched and ancient entry/exit point into the town. In theory it offered 15mm clearance for Hazel to get through and A was not prepared to get stuck. We reversed gingerly back along the very busy high street and with a bit of help from a friendly local managed to turn round and escape around the town another way.
Alnwick looked to be a lovely little town with a large and impressive castle. We resolved to return on our next trip north when the locals will not want to stab us.
We spent two lovely days with Margaret and Donald in Redcar prior to heading further south. Karen visited a fabric and craft shop in Guisborough to buy materials for her latest project and A assisted Donald in clearing a large Ivy from their rear garden. We free camped both nights on the stray between Redcar and Marske with only a French motorhome beside us - very peaceful.

      Redcar

      July 7, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Three nights on the stray free camping in Redcar as we travelled here to be with Margaret whilst Donald went in for an operation.
Dropping D off at Northallerton Friarage Hospital on Monday at noon we then visited Thirsk for lunch followed by some retail therapy for the ladies. I wandered off for a walk around the town following the history boards which were on a 3 mile route in the town and surrounding country side.
Returning to Northallerton we had a couple of hours to kill prior to visiting time - time for another coffee and scone and further browsing.
We spent an hour with D whilst he recovered from the anesthetic - all seemed to be going okay.
OnTuesday it was apparent that the operation had been successful and D was allowed home. Nicola, Malcolm et al returning from a holiday in Spain were able to pick him up on their way and he entered the house all smiles. A great result after 11 months of woe.
