    Here in Raleigh Durham

    November 3, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

We have been in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina for a family wedding. My niece, a Duke graduate, and her fiance, also a Duke graduate, wanted to get married in the Duke Chapel. Reserving the chapel for a wedding ceremony is not an easy thing, but involves tents and sleeping outside for about a month before the release date for the month in which you want to marry. Very complicated, kind of like getting Duke basketball tickets.

We decided to make a long weekend of it, and got here on Thursday. Dinner at Luna in downtown Durham was a great way to start off. The American Tobacco campus, home to all the big brands of US cigarettes, has been turned into a non-smoking tourist attraction. Fun to walk around.

Friday was spent with good coffee, nice long hike on a trail through a lovely forest, lunch at Rose’s, best dumplings I have ever had. After the rehearsal dinner, we almost made it to the after-party, but decided to call it quits and leave the event to the young folks.

    Wedding day, before the wedding

    November 3, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

After rain and clouds for two days, Saturday was gorgeous — sunny and cool, perfect for a wedding. Since the ceremony wasn’t till 3 pm, we had plenty of time to enjoy. Ben had heard a lot about a bakery/bread store, called Boulted Bread, which I can highly recommend. Hard for me to remember having eaten any better pastries. But we spent most of the morning and early afternoon at the North Carolina museum of Art. A former brownfield turned art museum and outdoor sculpture garden, it is a must-see if you come to Raleigh-Durham.Read more

Phil is such a foodie. Everywhere we went her told me which restaurants had good meals. He took me me out for lunch with his friend Sophie and later dinner. Then he treated me to his homemade ice cream. I ate so good that day.

I enjoyed Phil's tour so much and I wanted to see more. He drive me downtown while he did some errands. I hung out and relaxed for two hours. It's a really nice area especially at night.

I haven't really found anything that truly interest me in Raleigh. I find out that there is a mall nearby that has an Apple store. I go and see if they can fix one of my iPods. They end up breaking them and find a replacement at the mall in Durham. I finally have a new iPod and look forward to putting music on it. I head back and go on the jog around lake Johnson. I do my fist 5k in 37 minutes. I head back to Shaun's house. We talk for a little bit and around 8 pm be states I need to leave because he feels we are not getting along. I leave without questioning, but find it is very strange. I message a bunch of people nearby in hoes of finding a new place to start for the night. About 30 minutes go by and Phil contacts me. I head to his house in Durham. I think this works out so much better. Phil is like the most adventurous grandpa that I never had. He welcomes me and insists that he shows me around that night, since I tell him I would only be staying for a day. We walked around downtown and he showed me part of Duke. It was great.Read more
