  • Day 277: Overhanging Great Wall

    7 septembre 2024, Chine ā‹… ā˜€ļø 23 °C

After visiting the Jiayuguan pass, we walked and visited the overhanging Great Wall. It was located 8km away from the Jiayuguan pass area. The overhanging Great Wall was restored. So it looked a bit artificial to us. But still, it’s good to have walked on the Great Wall. The old saying said ‘if one haven’t been to the Great Wall, they are not a good man’. So, we are 2 good people now :)En savoir plus

  • Day 280: DaMing Palace

    10 septembre 2024, Chine ā‹… ā˜€ļø 28 °C

The Daming Palace is located in the imperial garden to the north of the ancient outer city of the Chang' an City (Xi’an).

The administrative area was located in the front the southern half), and the emperors residential area was in the rear (the northern half). The buildings were arranged with strict symmetry along the central
axis, and the entire palace was divided into five sections by walls running from east to west, as prescribed by the traditional importance of the numbers five and nine for the emperor.

The palace was large, stringently ordered, and completely systematized for its time, an iconic piece of classical Chinese architecture that reflected the great achievement in the aspect of architectural planning during (he Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) with both traditional and innovative concepts.

The Danfeng Gate, the central southern entrance of the Daming Palace of the imperial palace complex of the Tang dynasty, was built in the second year
of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang dynasty (662AD). It was the main passage of imperial palace in the Tang dynasty active for more than 240 years. The
Dangeng Tower, built on the Danfeng Gate, was the symbol of the Tang Dynasty. It was an important place where the emperor held important activities, such
as decree issuance, grand ceremonies and important announcements. Therefore, the Danfeng Gare is also called the "the first gate of the Tang dynasty”.

The south side of the Danfeng Gate is connected to Danfeng Gate Street, and the north side is followed by the Hanyuan Hall, the Xuanzheng Hall, and the
Zichen Hall, which constitute the central axis of the Daming Palace, the best presentation of the Royal Palace of the Tang dynasty.

At the beginning of the 21st century, comprehensive archaeological excavation of the Danfeng Gate site confirmed that it was the "national gate" with
five doorways. On June 22, 2014, with the successful inscription of the Daming Palace site on the World Heritage List, the Danfeng Gate will also show
prosperous history in a new era.
