  • Todays tour

    1 Oktober 2016, Irlandia ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

After getting lost for a hour I found the Guinness storehouse. What an amazing place! Learned how to pour a pint the right way and now I'm certified. The city is on fire with energy as there is a final football match on tonight. I have never seen so many men in one place in all my life. They're everywhere. Where are all the women? Check out the "bin the poo" picture, means pick up your dog crap and has a toxic sign on the back. Enjoy the photosBaca selengkapnya

What a stellar day! Beautiful sunshine and spectacular views. Went through the the mountains where Excalibur, Saving private Ryan, Braveheart, The Vikings and PS I love you were all filmed. Magnificent! Also saw a private cabin owned the guiness' nephews where only stars go for private relaxation. What a lesson in history! Love the signs here! Check out the new dog sign. They don't Jess around. Stayed tuned for more-just having a pub lunch of fish and chips.Baca selengkapnya

  • New home for 2 days then off to Slovenia

    3 Oktober 2016, Irlandia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Checked into the Spire hostel today and am rooming with 7 other females. Not sure how much sleep I will get. Out and about Dublin today and found the shopping district. Was enticed by the inexpensive bra and panty sets at only 5 euros. Will wait until I get to Slovenia for that. Booked my flight for the 5th and am meeting Christy there. A couple of shots from yesterday's tour attached and also today's walkabout.Baca selengkapnya

  • Last day in dublin

    4 Oktober 2016, Irlandia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Spent the day on a 5 hr trek. Found where Oscar Wilde lived and a statue of him across the street. See the shots. Went the museum of natural history today and saw some very interesting species. Irish deer which no longer exist had the rack span of 8ft across. They put our moose to shame. Couldn't take many photos because I ran out of space on my phone. Had to dump a couple of apps and clean up the mail. Having my last Ginny as I take off tomorrow at 6 am to catch my flight to Ljubljana, Slovenia. So excited because there will be some good wine there and it will be cheaper. Ireland in general is expensive.
Irish facts: I have only seen two ginger here the whole time; everyone smokes and looks twice their age; Irish people yell all the time; the streets are littered with garbage; there are a lot of homeless on the street (mainly looking for $ for beer; the fashion is adidas track pants (yes even the women)! The Irish people are incredibly helpful, happy and can't wait to tell you their life story. They have incredibly good manners and a hilarious sense if humour. I have laughed a ton!

  • What an adventure today!

    6 Oktober 2016, Slovenia ⋅ 🌙 6 °C

So much action today. Started the morning within a one hour walk in the city while Christy slept in. It was cool but the sun was shining and I found the centre and market with a short 7 minute walk. Found St. Nicholas church with the most beautiful brass door I have ever seen. It is so incredibly clean and beautiful here. I give this city a five star rating; right up there with Kraków. Went back to the hotel and had a fabulous breakfast. Then we headed back out to the city for the day. We took a boat trip up the fisherman's wharf river and stopped at the foot of the national park.

It was beautiful. We had lunch by the riversbend then went back to the hotel for a glass of wine. Went back to town and had a tasting with Andreas a Spanish wine maker and agent. He gave us a bottle of cold pressed olive oil as a gift from his olive grove and offered me a job. I'm thinking about it! He gave us a name of a great restaurant to eat at called Chompas. They squeezed us in for a 7 pm dinner. It was incredible. We had a film maker send us an appetizer and then the guy next to me sent us fresh grilled bread. Then the chef sent us Croatian sausages. We had so much fun with the locals and laughed our butts off. Then the owner told the guy next to me to.....have to edit this part ha ha ha......use your imagination! I love this city! Today's beautiful shots.

  • World smile day!

    7 Oktober 2016, Slovenia ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Been smiling since we got here! It was world smile day today and we had yet another great day. Toured the castle, food festival in the square, found a wine bar referred to us by Blair winemaker from ruby blues and checked into our Airbnb. Walked about 10 k today and there is no lack of things to do here. Had a great pizza for dinner tonight and Christy saw her first jezo tonight! That's hedgehog in Slovak. Check the little gaffer out. Two locals thought I was Russian today. Been doing lots of translating. Dropped in on our restauranteur & his wife tonight and they gave us a glass of local wine and cheese and spent the night talking to us. They were so happy we had dinner at their restaurant last night. Check out the funny giggling picks of us in the mirror. FYI on the menu was local delicacy- raw young horse meat. I was at a loss for words .Baca selengkapnya

  • Goriska Brda, Medana, Jakoncic

    10 Oktober 2016, Slovenia ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

Neza(the student we met at the wine store two days ago) picked us up at 9am from our hostel. We drove out about 140 km to the west and started our first wine tasting at Medana. The Kristancic family has been making wine for four generations. We tried 5 different wines and I bought a bottle of chardonnay the was oaked for two years. Incredible. We went to the local castle but it was closed. The landscape was unbelievable. Everything is planted on a slope & the first harvest isn't until the fourth year. We then went to the Jakoncic vineyard where the family has been producing for 5 generations. We tried 7 different wines and mama brought a beautiful charcuterie platter. We had crossed Italy and s
Slovenia in a matter of 30 seconds. Mitya the winemaker was wonderful and full of knowledge and the whole wine production area was so clean. Very forward thinking in the use of barrels. Check out the old concrete (50 yrs ago) barrels (blue) and the new egg shaped barrels he is using now made from Slovanian oak. The most beautiful tasting room I have ever seen. We had dinner later at a local family restaurant which was wonderful and the Neza drove us to our hostel in Postjana where we will explore the grotto and caves tomorrow. Can't wait. Right now there are a bunch of teenage boys dancing to polka music above us. Peculiar!

  • Postojna and Predjamska Jama Castle

    11 Oktober 2016, Slovenia ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

What s phenomenal day today. Started the day with walking to the Grotto Caves called Postojna. We took a small train into the caves about 1 km down. We then meandered through the caves for two kms. We went down below the ground 140 metres and couldn't believe the amazing rock formations. Huge stalogmite columns. Felt like I was in a star wars movie. At one point the lights went out and it was sheer silence. After the cave tour we headed 9km up the road to Predjamska Jama where the castle was built into a rock cavern for protection purposes. It was amazing and had underground escape tunnels for its occupants to flee if war was about to break or if they were threatened. The stairs were so steep that a midget would never have made it up them. Tomorrow we head to Piran, the west coast and then to Trieste making our way to Budapest Hungary.Baca selengkapnya

  • Piran-Breathtaking

    13 Oktober 2016, Slovenia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Didn't write last night because we had too much fun and got into our room really late. We got into Piran which is in the farthest west coast point of Slovenia. Absolutely stunning. Climbed the bell tower,146 steps to the top, and took some great photos. Walked the promenade and had a great lunch. Drank some wine in our room and then met a couple of guys for drinks later. Had a ton of fun laughing and joking with them. One was from Bosnia and the other was local. The weather was warm sunny and 17 degrees.
We were supposed to get a ride to Trieste Italy but had to grab a cab instead. We got into Trieste at 11 am. Christy crashed and I headed into town to explore.

Leisure day today scouting around the piazzas. Dinner at an Italian restaurant in the square and the cost of food is twice as much. Luckily breakfast is included in our hotel. Hitching a ride with Matteo tomorrow and meeting him at the train station. Will be nice to drive through the mountains. Will take a couple of photos tomorrow to post.Baca selengkapnya

  • Beautiful big Budapest

    14 Oktober 2016, Hungaria ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Well we met up with our bla bla car ride Matteo, who happened to be a policeman in terrorist investigations and cruised at 160km/h into Budapest. It was a five hour drive and he dropped us off at our Airbnb. We got in around 7 so quickly did some grocery shopping and then went to the most beautiful cafe called the New York cafe which was totally renovated by the Italians. Had my first bowl of Hungarian goulash which is just how my staramama made. Scrumptious. Big day of touring tomorrow.Baca selengkapnya

  • Yesterday's Tour

    16 Oktober 2016, Hungaria ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

We did the big bus city tour yesterday which was 90 minutes. There is so much to see here and the sites are huge. We went to the Jewish sector and found a great restaurant called Mazel Tov and I had the shawarma, which was spiced grilled chicken leg on pita with beetroot salad. Fabulous! We then went to the national museum where we were rushed through the exhibits by two crabby old women who wanted to go home. Disappointing. Walked to the Danube River and caught our night river cruise so we had a chance to see the city by night-great! Drank lots of beer and walked home in a rain storm.Baca selengkapnya

  • Royal Palace, Ruin pub, Fisherman bastio

    17 Oktober 2016, Hungaria ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Spent the day at the Royal Palace and covered four floors of the art and history gallery. From the top you could see the panorama of the city. We walked over to the St. Mattys church and Fishernans Bastion. This is where the guardians of the palace lived . We then caught the big bus to the Jewish district and went to Ruin pubs which is a highly rated party pub. We had dinner and lots of drinks with 5 guys from York,England who I am going to meet up with in my pet sitting gig in December. Danced all night and made it home by 230. So much fun! Didn't have my phone with me so I couldn't take photos yesterday but will get some of Christys shots. Christy rolled in at 10 am...Baca selengkapnya

  • St. Stephens Cathedral, Litsz museum

    17 Oktober 2016, Hungaria ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

I spent the afternoon on foot touring around and getting a holistic feel of Budapest. I walked for 2.5 hours and found the St. Stephens Cathedral (not the most ornate church I have seen) and also saw the right hand of St. Stephen which was found in the early 1400's. Kind of creepy to have it on display but the hungys worship it. Saw the beautiful Opera house and the Franz Litsz museum. Lots of musical culture here. I must have put on about 10 k today walking but it was great to feel like a local. Couldn't see the sinagogue as it is closed today and tomorrow. I did see the stainless steel tree of life which had the names of the persecuted inscribed on each leaf. Tomorrow I hope to make it to the spa for a day of mineral baths and relaxation treatments.Baca selengkapnya

  • Bratislava, Slovakia-home again

    19 Oktober 2016, Slovakia ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

Didn't write yesterday because not a lot happened and honestly it was time to move on. Hungarian facts-everybody smokes,a lot, and it's killing me. When hungies say they speak English 'a little bit'-they don't! They are full of baloney. They never smile and don't recycle. The streets smell like urine and they drink by 9 am-must be noon somewhere. They always close the door on you and make you feel like your imposing on them. They make good goulash and they have donair shops every block. They have beautiful architecture, but their personal skills stink.Baca selengkapnya

  • Bratislava. Sk

    19 Oktober 2016, Slovakia ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

Made it here in two hours by train and the ride was great. Christys first train ride and we had a couple of beers on route. Our hostel was 7 minutes from the train station. Checked in and found a great place to have real Slovak food. Toured around for a few hours and then found a fabulous craft beer bar where we hung around for a couple of hours. They had over 220 wines on their list. The manager was schmoozing me and getting the goods about Canada and our wines. Tons of fun!Baca selengkapnya
