Day 1, weather awful blowing a gale and lashing down with rain so Danni and i decided to make a start today instead of tomorrow. Slipped off a rock and swan dived 6 feet - nice soft landing in a bog. Bridge out at Tangasdale it was floating on the top of the water we went across one at a time, got very very wet!Read more

Barra and Eriskay

Weather still awful at the start of the day but scenery magnificent! Went a bit off piste to avoid a very boggy section. Ferry ride to Eriskay and entertained by two passengers playing their musical instruments. Met Neil from Oz who is also walking the HWRead more

A northerly gale blowing so Danni & I decided the sensible thing to do would be to walk north from my house southwards to Eriskay where Ian would pick us up and take us back home 😊 At least the sun is shining. Could hardly stand let alone walk as we checked out the church in Eriskay with the boat altar. Great pub lunch in The Politician when we were finished walking for the day.Read more

Askernish to Loch Druidibeg. Cool and breezy but much improved on yesterday. A pretty flat walk today the first part along the stunningly beautiful west coast then heading east into the moorland ending the day at the RSPB Loch Druidibeg reserve where Ian picked us up and took us home.Read more

South Uist to Benbecula

Ian dropped us off at Loch Druidibeg and we followed our own route rather than the “official” route as that would have been way too boggy. We headed over to the west coast and walked our way north. Lunch at Hebridean Jewellery cafe and over the causeway to Benbecula, ending at the Dark Island Hotel. I have toothache ☹️Read more

Disaster strikes

Dropped Danni at the Dark Island Hotel to resume her walk, meanwhile, having woken up looking like Daffy Duck i headed time see the emergency dentist who diagnosed an abscess 😭 he did a little minor surgery on my gum and put me on antibiotics for a week. Feel grotty. Not wanting to let Danni down i’ve decided to continue as vehicle support for her as she continues walking northwards.Read more

A very dreich day, Danni headed off first thing and i packed up and left the fab bunkhouse at Moorcroft. I headed round to meet Danni at Langass and had a short walk to meet her. Still feel pretty off colour. Brewed up for us both. Ended the day in Lochmaddy - it was pouring down by then. B&B for the night and a meal in the nearby Lochmaddy Hotel.Read more

Danni set off and decided to stick to the road all the way to Berneray as the amount of rain will make the moorland sections pretty nasty! Walked back to meet Danni. Got the lunchtime ferry across the sound to Harris and we are staying at Am Bothan Bunkhouse for the night. A sunny day but a cool breeze.Read more

Harris and a yurt

A storm is coming in later so Danni headed up the Golden Road along the east side of Harris rather than the longer more exposed west coast route and then over the Coffin Road. We got settled down in the yurt, stove lit and enjoyed a cosy evening listening to the lashing rain and gale force winds - laughing as we said “wasn’t this the night we were going to bivvy out?” How crazy were we even to entertain that thought! 😂Read more

I’m feeling much better now so i parked up and walked up into the hills to meet Danni, spectacular scenery and i saw two Golden Eagles overhead. We stayed overnight at the Scaladale Hostel and were the only ones there.Read more

Balallan - Lewis

Weather pretty rough and another storm is forecast to come in tomorrow so Danni took the opportunity to get as far as she could. If we were both still on foot we would be a bit stuffed! We’d already booked our accommodation at Balallan but Danni was able to walk as far as Achmor just leaving her a short walk tomorrow. Met Neil the Ozzie guy again.Read more

Stornoway - the end!

An awful day weather wise and we were very glad that we hadn’t got to walk 18 miles in torrential rain and winds gusting to 50mph. I dropped Danni at Achmor then went and dropped the van at Lews Castle in Stornoway, donned my waterproofs and headed out to meet Danni. Four miles later after battling the wind and rain there she was and we walked back into Stornoway to end Danni’s Hebridean Way - it was her first long distance walk and she did amazingly well 😊 Me, well, i’ll just have to have the pleasure of finishing it off at some other time 😊Read more
