  • Tiger Arena, Hue, Vietnam

    11 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

We took a leisurely stroll along the riverside, not expecting a local dog to join us for our morning walk, which was a lovely surprise! When we had to divert towards the roads we managed to part ways from our new friend and head towards the tiger arena. Unfortunately the arena wasn't open when we got there, but we could see in to the cages for both the tigers and elephants. Only got one photo unfortunately as my camera lost mine! Czytaj więcej

  • Endangered Primate Rescue Centre,Vietnam

    16 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ 🌧 21 °C

We visited the Endangered Primate Rescue Center while on a trip to Cuc Phuong National Park and got to see lots of gibbons and langurs (unfortunately all the loris's were fast asleep!) which are part of the rescue, rehabilitation, breeding, research and conservation program of Vietnam’s endangered and critically endangered primate species.

There was a lot of monkey business going on!

  • Trang An, Ninh Binh, Vietnam

    19 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

We had an absolutely stunning boat ride around Trang An, the weather was still a bit rainy which added to the atmosphere - plus we were very happy to not have the sun beating down on us for hours!

This was a shooting location for Kong Skull Island, and it looked every bit a film set. We went early morning and barely saw any other tourists, when this is usually packed out with boats.

I had a surreal experience stood outside one of the temples, looking out over the magnificent landscape, when one of the Vietnamese rowers phone rang - with the old Nokia ringtone. It was like being in one of old cinema 'turn off your mobile phone' adverts!

  • Sapa, Vietnam

    20–23 gru 2023, Wietnam ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

The coldest weather we have experienced in a while, it started to feel like Christmas when we visited Sapa! An unusual mix of foggy streets, bright lights, and colonial buildings - there was certainly magic in the air, as we strolled around in as many layers as possible! Czytaj więcej

  • Terraced Rice Fields trek, Sapa, Vietnam

    23 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

We were so grateful to get to trek among the stunning terraced rice fields in Sapa, the weather had improved so it was a perfect day for our walk. Our guide, fellow trekkers, and local women helping us were all lovely - this was definitely a day we will have fond memories of for a long time.

My legs also took about three days to recover, so our guide was right - if you want to get fit, working in these fields will do the trick!

  • Cat Ba, Vietnam

    24–30 gru 2023, Wietnam ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

After a cold few days we headed to Cat Ba island for some sun, sea, sand, and warmer weather. We weren't disappointed as the island was jaw droppingly beautiful, with a relax island vibe that we thoroughly enjoyed for our first Christmas abroad.

I can't lie, we didn't do much here than wander and admire the skyline - it was just magical ❤️

  • Lan Ha Bay, Vietnam

    27 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Sat next to Halong Bay is Lan Ha Bay, the less touristy, quieter cousin to the famous bay that we decided to visit. As we stayed on an island close by we organised with a local fisherman for a private tour on a converted boat - and happily sailed the bay sat at the front taking in the fantastic views.

We had one stop in the trip too, for Monkey Island. Somehow the first time we have seen monkeys in the wild, and it sure left an impression when Luke was mugged for his plastic water bottle by two large males. Genuinely terrifying at the time, especially as the tour group who had just left told us that someone had been bitten twice minutes before we arrived!

We were very glad to get back to sailing around the bay, Luke replacing his water with a beer instead, and going from one of the most adrenaline filled moments so far to one of the most serene and beautiful landscapes.

  • Ho Chi Minh Museum, Hanoi, Vietnam

    31 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We visited Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum first, almost marched in a giant queue around the area till we entered the building. It got darker and quieter the further towards the centre, until we finally walked into a room with Ho Chi Minh resting inside. We slow walked around the room still in a queue, and emerged into the light on the other side to be guided towards the musuem. We were able to wander the area that Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in, before heading to the musuem. Unfortunately we were one last ones to enter the musuem before closing for lunch, which meant we were hurried along! The musuem displays were very modern, almost art like, but not too much information presented. Czytaj więcej

  • Train Street, Hanoi, Vietnam

    31 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

We tried to see a train earlier in the day, basically being ambushed by a lady while we were walking who led us to her cafe on the side of the road. Unfortunately the train never arrived, and while it was an amusing anecdote that we had to hide from police on the cafe balcony, we were disappointed to have missed the experience. Going back in the evening we were rushed again to a chair in front of a cafe, quickly served a drink and finally a train arrived - much closer than you can believe! After the train was gone we were able to wander down the tracks too. Czytaj więcej

  • Ngoc Son Temple, Hanoi, Vietnam

    31 grudnia 2023, Wietnam ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

Really cute temple in the middle of a lake, we visited in the evening when it was lit up beautifully. They had the preserved bodies of two large turtles on display as well, these lived in the lake and are culturally and historically significant to Vietnam, especially due to the legend of the lake which has a turtle return a mythical sword to the Emporer. • B52 Wreckage in lake, Hanoi, Vietnam

    2 stycznia 2024, Wietnam ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

"On December 27, 1972, during a U.S. aerial bombing campaign targeting Hanoi and Hai Phong, a B-52 bomber was hit by a surface-to-air missile while flying over Hanoi. The missile caused severe damage to the aircraft and led it to crash into Huu Tiep Lake."

We had to walk through some narrow passages with local shops trading on each side, while dodging scooters, bikes, and fellow pedestrians to finally reach this small lake in the middle of the city. As life continued around it the downed aircraft remains a constant reminder of the atrocies of the war, and to the locals a symbol of victory and pride.

  • Imperial Citadel, Hanoi, Vietnam

    2 stycznia 2024, Wietnam ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

The Imperial citadel site was huge, with so many levels of history. Within the musuem we looked at archaeological remains of sculptures and pottery, then ambled around ancient buildings, and finally stepped down into bunkers used during the Vietnam War. A truly fascinating place, that has been the setting for many important events within Vietnam’s history. Czytaj więcej

  • Lenin Statue, Hanoi, Vietnam

    2 stycznia 2024, Wietnam ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We passed Lenin a few times on our wanders around the city, amusingly during the holiday celebrations most of the time we saw the stoic figure he was looking over a park filled with children racing around in toy cars, teenagers playing football, and adults selling brightly coloured flashing decorations to the passing tourists.
