    26–27 août 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

Pleasant 45 mile ride as we descend down to 4,600 ft elevation now that we are west of the divide. The skies were hazy from nearby wild fires although not close enough for us to alter our travel plans. Camping at the town of Deer Lodge with a train history and western museums including the old Montana prison.En savoir plus

  • Cabin at Bearmouth, MT

    27–28 août 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

We rode 50 miles to Bearmouth Montana and getting closer to Missoula. Lots of gravel riding through state lands and ranches. We met Andy a mountain biker and park board member who helped design the trail. His dog zhenia joined as our escort. I had my picture taken with a tumbleweed. We finished at Bearmouth campground with a old western theme cabin for an expected rainy night. In the old west, Bearmouth was a trading post for the Garnet ghost town located up in the woods.En savoir plus

  • Missoula and ACA

    28 août 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

A 38 mile Ride into Missoula, Montana. A pleasant ride with drizzle through the misty mountains and trails. Notable as 17 bicycle miles were on Interstate I-90 and allowed in Montana. First visit Adventure Cycling Association (ACA). Jeff gave us a tour of the facility/museum.
For me, this was the beginning of my interest in bike touring. In 1976, there was Bike Centennial and a set of maps published to assist a tour of USA. I purchased a set of these maps with my paper route money. I didn't tour America at that time. I did have an adventure soon after. Don't tell my parents but at 16 my friend Bob and I rode down Rt 20 to the Pennsylvania line and back to Mentor. First long century ride totaling more than 100 miles.
Next stop was for pizza and drinks, then to Hellgate Cyclery for some repairs.

A 53 mile ride through western Montana Rockies with 1,300 ft ascent. We have descended down to 3,200 ft elevation. It was very nice to have Jack rejoin the group today now with 4 on the narrow path tour group. The route was a nice mix of paved 2 lane with several segments on I-90 and a great woodsy dirt path through the forest to a riverside camp.En savoir plus

30 mile ride through the Lolo National Forest area of western Montana. The park was named after Lolo Creek. Which was a mispronounced fur trader name from the early 1800's. We discussed trail conditions with eastbound cyclist Ian and his dog Sandy. Destination arrival at the town of St Regis and enjoyed a World Famous Huckleberry shake at Winki's.En savoir plus

  • Arrived at Idaho and time zone to PST

    1–2 sept. 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

53 mile ride with 2,300 ft ascent arriving at Wallace, Idaho. A great early century town from mining, brothels and now tourism and silver mining. Great trails for cycling starting with The Olympian then the Northern Pacific and to the start of the Coeur d'Alenes.
Wallace, Idaho is called the Center of the Universe because its mayor proclaimed it so in 2004, based on the ancient Greek philosophical concept of probabilism, which states that if something cannot be disproven, it can be considered true.

    2–3 sept. 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

Nice start but a very hot 100 this afternoon.
Coeur d'Alene is an Indian Reservation. The trail runs through northern Idaho and park like with many lakes and valleys. Silver mining during the 1800's left much of the mining tailings exposed resulting in environmental issues and hard metals in the water systems. The paved trail helped to clean a portion of the area. There were 4 firefighting planes working local wild fires. The planes came by every 30 minutes. There is some ash on our campsite.En savoir plus

  • St John in new state Washington-yeah

    3–4 sept. 2025, États Unis ⋅ 🌙 77 °F

A nice start from the campground this morning with lots of climbing on another 100 degree plus day in the afternoon. New state of Washington. Eastern Washington is pretty sparse.
On this very hot afternoon while pushing my bike up a slope, Shelia stopped to see if I needed help and offered a ride into town. Thank you to Shelia a trail angel and her 2 little dogs. Another trail angel helped with water refilling for Chris and I. Folks have been very nice.
There were many areas where the trees suffered from wild fires. Very little plant growth and few animals in these areas.
We are staying at St. John, Washington. At Creekside Farm B&B in the air-conditioned upper Barn. The home stretch to Seattle.

  • Ralston, WA eastern

    4–5 sept. 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

53 mile ride with 1,600 ft ascent toward middle Washington state. Traveled from St John to Ralston. Ralston was named such after supplying grain to the Ralston company when the town was a stop along The Milwaukee Tracks.
Amazed at how few people, buildings and roads in eastern Washington. Note - bring lots of water.
Ralston town was very gracious to allow us to camp in the shaded park. They open the air-conditioned Grange building to help keep us cool on another 100 plus degree day.

A 54 mile ride with 1,600 ft ascent to Potholes State Park and Reservoir. An early start helped us with cycling in the coolest part of the day and avoid the 90's in the afternoon. The terrain plants are changing to fields of Sagebrush.
Traveled through Lind where they host the Combine Demolition Derby. Camping at the Reservoir where the state park is hosting a powerboat race over the weekend. On the home stretch to Seattle.

  • Arrived at Vantage, Washington

    6–7 sept. 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

Wildfires in the area resulting in heavy smoke and causing very high air pollution levels. The smoke blocked out the sun today. Breathing was a labor in this environment.
A 47 mile ride today with 1,700 ft of ascent and fast down hill runs toward the Columbia river. We crossed the Columbia River on a former train bridge while riding the John Wayne Pioneer trail / Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail.
It is harvest time with apples, potatoes and onions falling off the trucks and onto the roadside, could possibly make dinner. An apple truck lost braking on the downhill and ended up stuck next to the trail.
Vantage, WA, is known for Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park and Desert landscape views along the Columbia River.

    8–9 sept. 2025, États Unis ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Alice Creek - set up camp trailside in the woods. A 43 mile ride up and over the Snoqualmie Pass, a Cascade mountain pass between eastern and western Washington. The woods now look very much like a Northwest Pacific location and very scenic. The trail led us through Snoqualmie Tunnel. A 2.7 mile train tunnel built in 1914. Lights were required to get through the dark tunnel safely.
50 miles remain for tomorrow and arriving at the planned finish in Seattle.
