• Tori and Ben Wedding

    April 18 in Slovenia ☁️ 20 °C

After breakfast, we took a leisurely stroll into town, passing roosters in the fields along the way. A stop at the information center for souvenirs ended, after much consideration, with Ed deciding he was all set—sometimes the best souvenir is just the memory! For lunch we shared a light lunch of a Panini, a soft pretzel, and the iconic Bled Cream Cake (Kremna rezina) at an outdoor cafe overlooking Lake Bohinj. It was gorgeous but quite busy and noisy. The area is known for its hiking and bike trails and there were many cyclists in town that had stopped at the cafe for lunch. Between the mountain views, the lake, the water fountains, and even a hang glider soaring near the peaks, there was plenty to enjoy before heading back to the hotel to prepare for Tori and Ben’s big moment.

On the way to the wedding, we encountered a bit of a hurdle when we got stuck in a construction zone, but despite the delay, we managed to arrive on time. The setting for the wedding ceremony was breathtaking—held outdoors with a picturesque view of one of the region's many historic churches, which added a sense of timelessness to the occasion.
Tori looked absolutely stunning. She had ordered her gown, sight unseen, all the way from Ukraine; it was made specifically to her measurements, and the risk paid off perfectly, as it looked truly lovely on her. The ceremony itself was incredibly stirring and beautiful. Having Steve serve as the officiant made the moment feel deeply personal and heartwarming for everyone involved. One of the most moving highlights was when Tori and Ben shared the vows they had written themselves; they were so intimate and touching that there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd.

While the newlyweds headed down to the shores of Lake Bled for their photos—a session that lasted over two hours—the guests were kept happy and well-fed with a selection of delicious appetizers and beverages. Many guests enjoyed the "drink of the night"—a refreshing Apricot Spritz (apricot liqueur, prosecco, and soda water), a local favourite. Once the couple returned, we transitioned inside for a buffet supper and reception. The spread was grand, offering an impressive variety of choices that included fresh breads, vibrant salads and soups, and main courses of chicken, pork, fish, pasta, vegetables, and a decadent selection of desserts. Everything you could possibly want. And all very sumptuous.

The wedding was a truly international affair, with guests traveling from seven different countries: Australia, Canada, Holland, Singapore, England, Germany, and the United States. After the speeches, the young crowd danced the night away. Apparently, after we left the celebration continued in true "Aussie" fashion, with some of the men participating in a cheeky Australian wedding tradition - The men lower their pants. We're told the tradition was upheld for Tori and Ben. It was a wonderful wedding and fun evening.
