• Yardie Creek

    2021年9月12日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

First up this morning we drove to the bottom of the Cape Range National Park. Yardie Creek is the only permanent water source on the peninsula and runs naturally into the sea. We did the gorge walk so more rock scrambling but was rewarded with lovely red rock cliffs and a deep green river. It was about a 45 min walk return.

We stopped for lunch at Sandy Bay which was breathtaking. We watched a number of people on wing surfers. There was a beginner and two more experienced people. Once the board gets up out of the water it is impressive to watch how fast they move. Our snorkelling today was at Oyster Stacks which is a portion of the reef right by the shore protected by the larger reef system. It is a perfect place for families and less confident snorkelers (us) to get a good look at the coral.

The different types of coral were the biggest surprise to both of us including an impressive purple one which was a large ball about a metre across. There were heaps of sea slugs (yuck) and all sorts of reef fish from tiny electric blue ones through to quite sizeable silver ones. To finish the afternoon we stopped at Turquoise Beach for a nice relaxed swim.

Tonight there was entertainment at the camp- a duo singing. And it was roast night in the cafe too. Much easier to pay for someone else to do the roast with all the trimmings. Still a little windy but hopefully not enough to keep us awake.
