  • Rivière-du-Loup

    May 10–11, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

We made a pit stop in Rivière-du-Loup! It was very fun and the hostel was so cozy. It mayyyy have taken us an extra hour and a half because I took the wrong exit not once, but twice on the highway. It was rainy and the wipers weren't working great, but when Erin took my place the wipers worked! That's why she's got her full G and I just have my G2. Emma got to sleep on the top bunk and I got to kill a spider, while Erin was on her own bed since she was the best driver. We saw cool water falls and got sprayed with the water. Overall, we had a great time :)Read more

  • New Brunswick Yurt and Alma Village

    May 11–13, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We made it to our cozy Yurt in Fundy National Park near Alma! The first evening we went to the Muddy Rudder for dinner in Alma and explored some of the Bay of Fundy coast at low tide. We got some drinks and snacks then got cozy in our yurt (which had a nice gas fireplace). The second day we learned that no one eats breakfast in Alma (everything was closed until 11 am), so we bought some food at the small grocery store. Erin bought some sliced ham to snack on, but a slice got taken by the wind on the way back to the yurt 😂. We then went on a hike to Matthew's Head. For dinner, we went to the Tides restaurant where we saw a bald eagle, some falcons, and hummingbirds! The food was also delicious. Emma and I went on to the beach to explore the low tide, then we roasted some marshmallows when we got back! We explored some more of the beach before heading to our next destination on the third day.Read more

  • Matthew's Head Trail

    May 12, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

We did Matthew's Head hike in New Brunswick! The hike was labelled hard, but we thought it was going to be easy. Turns out a hard hike means it's hard! It was still very fun! There were lots of up hills and many obstacles to make it up to Matthew's Head! Emma is not just a fast runner, but a fast walker who left Erin and I in the dust 😂. We did not follow a sign that said not to go beyond it since we discovered it after we had broken the rule (oops), but Erin got a good photo of me breaking the rule. Overall, it was a very rewarding 10 km.Read more

  • Nova Scotia Beach Hostel

    May 13–15, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We made it to Nova Scotia! We got arrived at the Halifax Backpackers Beach hostel in Black Point, near Peggy's Cove. We went to the nearby Cleveland Beach on the first day and let Emma run her laps around the beach. Erin and I read our books while running from May flies! Emma and I both tried to go into the water but only made it up to our knees since it was freezing. It was a gorgeous day and we all had some fun. When we got back, Emma chatted with the other person in the hostel from the Netherlands, and Erin figured out how to run the hot tub at our hostel, which we used extensively. It even features a small disco ball! We made some hotdogs at the hostel and made plans for the next day for Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg. The next night after our adventures, we roasted marshmallows in the stove! Then Emma and I chatted in the hot tub for a long time :)Read more

  • Peggy's (and Polly's) Cove

    May 14, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Peggy's Cove! We made our way to Peggy's Cove in the morning. It was so sunny and the rock formations were so beautiful! We definitely, totally, listened to all the signs and stayed far away from the water. Erin actually did, but Emma and I were a little adventurous! There weren't many people there since it was the off-season, which was lovely. We got some fries at a takeout nearby, and Emma tried yet again to get into a church that was locked :(. We then stopped by Polly's Cove to do a gorgeous hike by the coast! Polly's Cove was so beautiful and worth it. The rock formations were very cool.Read more

  • Lunenburg

    May 14, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

In the afternoon we went to Lunenburg! It was a gorgeous day. We saw the Bluenose II, walked around the town, saw some horses, and went out for dinner near the pier. Emma tried once again to get into a church, but it was closed :(. The buildings were painted many pretty colours! Overall, it was a successful day :)Read more

  • Halifax

    May 15–16, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Halifax was the next stop! First, we went to the Immigration Museum, which was very informative (apparently only to me, though cause Emma and Erin know a lot of history 😂). It was really heartwarming to hear immigrants' stories about how and why they moved to Canada. We then went for lunch at the Driftwood Coastal Diner that was delicious and right near our Halifax Backpackers Hostel. It was definitely more of a dinner place, but they served us an early dinner in the afternoon. After food, we went to the Halifax Public Gardens, where Erin told us that she would live in Halifax and that it is better than Ottawa. I disagreed, but if she moves there, then Emma and I can visit, so I will not complain! We went shopping and venturing around the Halifax harbour, then ate an interesting dinner at the Hungry Bowl. They definitely served me expired iced tea (by a year and a half). Erin asked to get a new one for me, and the people working there said it was the production date... it wasn't, but the food was good, so it was worth it! Was pretty funny altogether, and I didn't die drinking some of it (Erin was right). Emma and I went to the Halifax Beer Garden for drinks at night after attempting to get into another bar with live music, but chickening out because it looked too fancy for us. Emma went to the bathroom like 5 times before arriving back to the hostel since our hostel didn't have running water from 10 pm to 6 am!! We kept thinking we were fine, then using that public bathroom one more time. Some girl also got told by security to leave the bathroom because he thought she was a man because of the way she was dressed, then he appologized when he realized his mistake. Was a whole wild kerfuffle! Overall a stellar day with lots of crazy stories!Read more

  • The Burntcoat Head Tides

    May 16, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

How do we even describe the beauty here? Burntcoat Head Park in Nova Scotia has the largest tide change in the world. The tides coming in was an insane feat of nature, with them going up to 16 m in just 6 hours! We were only able to stay for about 4 hours of the tide rising from the lowest tide, but it was still incredible to see, especially when two sides of the water met around the island. We walked very far on the ocean floor during low tide. Erin and Maggie had to convince Emma to stay farther away from the edge! A few minutes after she moved, the rock Emma was standing on went underwater!! Halfway in our time there, we went to a really cute and very canadian diner called Snappers Bar and Grill. When Maggie said she had a nut allergy, the waiter said, "the only nuts we have here are those working in the kitchen!" Maggie had a very canadian chicken sandwich, with two slices of white bread covered in gravy, and Emma got a delicious soup. Erin got some fries since we didn't want to test out how good their gluten-free stirfries would have been 😂. Overall, it was a very fun and beautiful trip on our way from Halifax to Fredericton.Read more

  • Fredericton

    May 16–17, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

We briefly went to Fredriction! We got there at around 7:30 pm after seeing the tides. We went to a Vietnamese takeout for dinner and then fell asleep shortly after. In the morning we went to this delicious restaurant called Caludine's Eatery! Then we headed off to our next adventure. The weather was insane for driving away from Fredriction. Maggie drove through a crazy thunderstorm where it was hard to see, and everyone had their blinkers on! Somehow, we made it through the crazy weather to our next location, Quebec City!Read more

  • Quebec City

    May 17–18, 2025 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

We made it to Quebec City! After a trailer filled with bikes almost backed into us and some parking mishaps, we finally made it to the hostel. Auberge International was so nice! They had renovated since the last time we were there. We explored Old Quebec and went to les Trois Garçons restaurant after much searching (since it was a holiday and we forgot!). We discovered what we would all look like blond and practiced our french (Emma and Erin made fun of Maggie's french). We then went out for bubble tea and ice cream at the Beavertails store. We sayed at the hostel and chatted, then explored some of the Petit Champlain before heading home.Read more
