    On my way

    November 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Getting my little long weekend under way. Some rain overnight and clearing this morning. Not heavy (wet tropics heavy) but very welcome . This is the first rain we have had for at least 2 months - what wet season? Our dry season was the the wettest on record - go figure! El Niño probs. Anyway - heading to Adelaide to spend time with Kerry, catch up with the kids (inc the Holly’s) and catch the Supercars. Adelaide is the best place to see them I reckon. Didn’t book a stand this year as we couldn’t sit in our seats last year - direct sun and it was hot. This year looks like being wet so we will probably rue the decision. First leg is CNS to BNE then BNE to ADL. All on QantasLink Embraer 190s - nice aircraft but no interweb or power. All a bit last century!Read more

  • Getting there

    November 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

My flights recently in and out of Cairns ( and BNE) have been less than impressive recently. I have had a string of flights that have left from the very far reaches of the airports and involved stairs and runway walks - again, so last century! That's my weekend away whinge sorted! Arrived after an uneventful flight (lovely wine) and Kerry picked me up. We stopped off at Sideways wine bar in Prospect - a place I look forward to visiting. We checked out Kerry's unit and it is progressing!! It is good to be back here and we will have a great weekend! Kerry put on a lovely spread of cheese and (home made crackers) spectacular oysters and sashimi salmon. We had Deviation Road bubbles and a Patritti Grenache PX...wowsers!Read more

  • Saturday - Market time

    November 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

My morning run was quiet and dry. It was also dark - no wonder all the curtains are faded here in SA (and those other odd states!) Early visit to the market and it is looking great - improving each visit. Bought some provisions for lunch trackside. Also bought some treats for coffee later - Portuguese Tart for me and a Madeleine for K. They were seriously good - so good I will repeat - seriously good! The weather started off cool and grey and is showing little sign of improvement. Looking forward to some Supercar action later this morningRead more

  • Start your engines

    November 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

We got to the track in plenty of time - very quiet this year and our usual park was ready and waiting. The layout was a little different but we found a spot with a view of our fave turn 9 and set up our chairs on a little mound. The weather was struggling and pretty cool. Of course I had inadequate clothing. As the day progressed the sun made a few efforts and sunburn was a possibility - no hats of course. Anyway we watched several support races and the all important top 10 shootout. K had catered and the smoked salmon rolls were A.MAZE.ING! We were entertained by the state of the art F35 Hornet - he had a lot of fun and it was the closest display to date - worth the price of admission right there! The race was absorbing and well driven but without crashes and safety cars (good and so so) - we had a great view of both the corner and a screen so a great day - even though the sun disappeared and it got a big too chilly for me. Cam Waters won and he gave us a fine display to celebrate! Tomorrow? #bringitonRead more

  • Dinner at K's

    November 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Fab dinner with a cracking wine that been resting for this very piece of beef. Well worth a blog entry on its own! Coffin Bay oysters with Deviation Road Sparkling Pink followed by a huge rib eye. Cooked to perfection by Chef K and complimented with a 2010 Zita Bernardo Shiraz. Drinking at its absolute peak - thanks Theo. Finished a little Lindt dark chocolate....Read more

  • Catching up

    November 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Wonderful to have all the Adelaide troops together for a lovely brekkie at 39 Stirling cafe in Thebarton. Highly recommend this place - imaginative food, well cooked and presented. The service was spot on too - great choice Kerry. Everybody commented on how good it was. We had a full house today with no apologies. We even a new recruit in Tash who is Graeme's gf - she is lovely and gets a thumbs up from allRead more

  • Winding it down

    November 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Excellent day continues - the F35, the racing and even the sun shone. Back to Ovingham for a Sri Lankan curry. K grinds all the spices from scratch it was amazing - very aromatic and full of flavor. A Provence Rose was a perfect match.
Monday now: A very early start for me as I do go for a run regardless. I reserved an Uber so Kerry didn't have to share the 'joy' of the early start. Airport was busy but the priority lane is a breeze. They have a new lane open now that was needed. The club was starting to fill but they had coffee service nailed. Pre made coffees on a trolley for those in a hurry and rapid service at the machine. Snagged an upgrade so no brekkie in the lounge and will see what 1A brings. Flight was delayed for 1 hour - no crew! Got away finally and the day is gloriously bright and sunny. Good flying weather. Some excellent views of Ovingham and the overpass. Breakfast service was prompt and well presented - it may be a smaller plane (Embraer again) but they don't hold back! A pumpkin and goats cheese quiche with a glass (or 2) of Lois sparkling by Lane Vineyards (geddit?) I do enjoy this wine - so much so I have bought a crate for my cellar. K would have struggled with the choices as the other was frittata. Nice sourdough and THAT butter would have had her purring. 1A is a single seat - luxe!! So - a settle back with good music in my buds and a nice glass. Wonder what the poor people are doing? (to keep a family saying going). I have a busy December so I will soak up the last of this long weekend. A couple of hours in BNE then to FNQ by mid afternoon for some pool time. The pilot put the boot in so we arrived in BNE only 25 mins late. The lounge was quiet so I was able to recover after the runway and stairs....Home, unpacked, washing on and to the pool. A wonderful long weekend with lots of good times and memories #bringiton
