The route

Reviewing the route before heading off tomorrow (Thursday 8th). A bit daunted - it’s what I’ve forgotten that worries me. I don’t know what I don’t know etc. I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough!
Setting Off

Van loaded. Weather gorgeous. What can possibly go wrong😃
Setting Off

OK - what can possibly go wrong : I forgot to upload the photograph!
Sevenoaks

Driving on the right!

Leaving England in the drizzle and arriving at Laurie and Magda’s flat in gorgeous sunshine. Woohoo! And I stayed on the right side of the road all the way from Calais!
Cologne Alone

I visited Cologne today and thought the cathedral was magnificent. Lit a candle for Sue and wandered the streets and market places. Only a little tinge of sadness but overall pleased with myLæs mere
Thuringia - villages and castles

After an early swim in Biggersee I went cross country to Eisenach. Lots of sleepy, immaculate villages on the way. Walked a 5 km forest trail up to Wartburg Castle and appreciated the dragon drinkingLæs mere

Days together in Warszawa

Meeting up, sightseeing, fantastic food, Magda’s family and, of course, the Warsaw Wedding!
Westward

Vacating the air b and b and seeing the Barwell’s safely to the airport (with the kind help of Jarosław and Iwona Tabaka) took most of the morning. Thunderstorms and extraordinary heavy rain slowedLæs mere
Berlin

Berlin - what a visual feast! Another place that definitely needs more time. Ah well, it was lovely to meet up with Alison and Ian again.
The only tourist in town

On my way to Mardorf I detoured to the splendid city of Braunschweig. It was lovely and felt very at ease with itself. Having visited a few memorial sites for Nazi atrocities in Berlin I needed thisLæs mere
Definitely NOT the only tourist in town

After a long drive I wasn’t sure about going into the city centre but it was amazing. Absolutely alive with bustle. Apparently it gets heaving after 9 pm, but that’s my bedtime so I’ll never know!
A day in Amsterdam

I started with a 2 hour run through the suburbs. I loved the amount of public amenity (parks, sculptures, nature spaces, cycle trails, outdoor gyms). And then to the centre for more exploring. StillLæs mere
