    Boat trip this morning which took us to what is known as the hole in the rock, we saw bottle nosed dolphins and had lunch on the beautiful Otehei Bay. This afternoon we went to Waitangi to visit the treaty grounds, where the Waitangi Treaty was signed in 1840 between the British crown & Māori chiefs.
    We also saw the world’s largest ceremonial war canoe, at 35m long and up to 2m wide, it holds 80 paddlers and 55 other passengers.
    A fascinating afternoon in a beautiful part of New Zealand.    Leggi altro

    Coach day back to Auckland we stopped at Kawakawa to see the Hundertwasser toilets - the most photographed toilets in New Zealand!! Completed in 1999 and named after the Austrian artist who designed them.
    We stopped for lunch at Whangerei the northern most city in New Zealand, a beautiful spot by a river, with a huge sundial and fascinating rolling ball clock, which tells the time using 35 balls to display hours, minutes and seconds, totally mesmerising! We had a lovely walk along the river.
    We arrived back in Auckland at 4pm, then met with all our fellow travellers, including our coach driver. Laurie & Tour Leader Alex for drinks and a sharing meal, we have travelled with a lovely group of people and it was a fabulous way to end our time together in New Zealand.
    Next stop Fiji for some rest!!!    Leggi altro

    We have arrived in Fiji, 2.5 hour flight from Auckland, last 30 minutes of the flight a little bumpy but not too bad! We were met at arrivals each given a shell necklace & bottle
    of water, then driven straight to our hotel, a 20 minute drive to Denarau Island. It was getting dark when we arrived as the sun sets about 6.30pm, first impressions are very good! Fiji is very green due to the amount of rain they have all year round, although our driver did say it is mainly showers in the evening - we have experienced 2 short light showers since arriving! Our room is beyond expectations, we have a suite looking onto the pool, waterfall and the sea in the background, looking forward to seeing it in daylight.
    With the UK having changed clocks and Fiji being an hour behind New Zealand we are now 11 hours in front of the UK.
    It feels a bit strange being without our fellow travellers, we had a lot of fun and laughter with everyone, but I’m sure we will soon settle into Fiji time 🥰    Leggi altro

    Bula! Hello! Fabulous first full day in Fiji, the sun shone all day, the people here are so happy and friendly, it is very hot and humid. We spent a lot of time at the adults only pool enjoying some much needed rest in the shade! We had flowers in our room after it was serviced this morning so I put one in my hair on the right side, only to find out tonight that the right side means you’re single, the left side you’re taken!! 😆
    Ian checked the news and discovered there had been a tsunami warning this morning for Fiji 😮 following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake off of the coast of Tonga, fortunately the warning was cancelled 😅 A reminder of where we are in the world right now!
    We enjoyed happy hour cocktails this evening whilst watching a beautiful sunset, followed by a traditional Fijian dance and fire show, then dinner in the restaurant, meal plus drinks a total of £28!! Ian is one happy boy! 😆😆    Leggi altro

    Very lazy day yesterday, so no footprint!
    Today we did our planned boat trip visiting 3 of the Fijian islands, Mana sand island, Monu island & Monuriki - the last one being famous for many of the Castaway film scenes and Survivor tv series.
    It was a fantastic day of snorkelling, firstly on the tiny sand island, then at Monu, there were beautiful reefs, we saw parrot fish, cuttle fish, yellow box fish and so many more, the reefs were so colourful, just stunning 🥰
    When we reached the castaway island the sky went black whilst we were eating lunch on shore, a reminder of how volatile and changeable the weather in this region can be! We heard thunder but it didn’t rain until we were on our way back a good hour later, fortunately the boat ride back wasn’t too bad considering!
    We finished the day with a ‘fire’ sunset and an Italian meal at the hotel, ❤️ All together another fabulous day!!    Leggi altro

    We were supposed to chill today, but after breakfast saw that there was a 3 hour jet ski safari leaving our hotel at 12.30pm, it was a bit overcast, so after deliberating we decided to go for it…. We last went jet skiing in Mexico 1996, so we were a bit nervous, we didn’t need to be! It turned out we were the only ones to book it today so we had a private tour with our guide Seru, it was off the chart amazing!
    We travelled for 45 minutes & stopped by a reef near to Beachcomber Island, it felt like the middle of nowhere! Then we jumped off of the jet ski and snorkelled the reef for 45 minutes, it made yesterday’s boat trip seem like nothing!! Hundreds of fish, so many different kinds, but including parrot fish, clown fish, schooling banner fish, zebra fish & so many more and stunning coral too,
    We jet skied another 15 minutes to Serenity Island resort for a lunch stop & to visit their turtle conservation project which was also amazing!
    Finally we jet skied back, Ian was chuffed as he managed to get the jet ski to 75kph…. The clouds had rolled in & we had a little rain on the way, but lots of fun & Seru took lots of photos & videos of us!
    A fabulous, memorable experience, topped off by yet another beautiful sunset 🙌    Leggi altro

    We had a quiet day yesterday due to a bit of tummy trouble for both of us 😧 fortunately it cleared for our long journey home!
    10 hours from Fiji to Singapore narrowly missing a thunderstorm on the way into land, we are currently sat at Singapore airport for a few hours before catching our 14 hour flight back to Heathrow, which is due back Sunday at 5.55am. The thunderstorm has arrived and has been going strong for a good 2 hours now, really hope it clears before we take off 🥹
    Reflecting on a fabulous holiday, we have loved every country we have visited, very different places and very different experiences! It has been hard going at times, but we had some great fun with our travelling companions and really enjoyed our Fiji break to end it.
    I doubt we will ever fly this far again, we did everything we wanted to do and this part of our travelling adventures is now coming to a close, time to get home and see everyone again!    Leggi altro
