Mt Sunday – Edoras

Povinná zastávka pro všechny fanoušky Pána Prstenů... a taky Sophie. Zde Peter Jackson zfilmoval zemi Rohanu. A sic je moje žena z počátku skeptická, dosahuje nakonec ještě vyššího stupně nadšení než já sám. Teď ji ještě přemluvím k návštěvě Hobbitonu, a nový nájemník do Středozemě je na světě!
Brázdíme jednu z nekonečně dlouhých a nudných polňaček. Okolní krajina s námi pak bravurně hraje poker. Po celou jízdu totiž vypadá, že v rukách nemá nic. Až poslední metráž ukáže, jak krásně umí blafovat. Otevíráme dveře úchvatného údolí, na nějž ze všech stran shlíží magické pohoří. Uprostřed pak dřepí malý kopec, jenž ve filmech nese hrad.
Cesta navrch je spíše procházkou, ale to nevadí. Neustále nás totiž fascinuje to pozadí. V úžasu podezírám vlastní oči, zdali co vidím, je vůbec pravé. Celá scenérie vypadá natolik senzační, že klidně můžu mít nasazené virtuální brýle a sledovat Matrix. Wow. Zéland stále ještě umí překvapit.

Mt Sunday – Edoras

A must-stop for all fans of The Lord of the Rings… and for Sophie as well. This is where Peter Jackson brought the land of Rohan to life on screen. And although my wife is skeptical at first, she eventually reaches an even higher level of excitement than I do. Now I just have to convince her to visit Hobbiton, and we’ll have a new resident of Middle-earth!
We drive along one of those endlessly long and rather boring dirt roads. The surrounding landscape plays a brilliant game of poker with us. The whole way, it looks like it’s holding nothing. Only in the final stretch does it reveal how beautifully it can bluff.
We step into a breathtaking valley, overlooked from all sides by magical mountains. In the middle squats a small hill—the one crowned by a fortress in the films. The walk up is more of a gentle stroll, but that hardly matters. What keeps astonishing us is everything around it. I find myself doubting my own eyes—whether what I’m seeing is even real.
The entire scene looks so spectacular that I might as well be wearing virtual reality goggles and watching The Matrix. Wow. New Zealand still knows how to surprise.Read more
