Kdo má rád kávu, určitě teď pochopí i další příměru. Náš vztah připomíná espresso. Extrahované rychle… a pod tlakem. S výraznou a silnou chutí.
A year has passed
What does it mean to live a good life? Every now and then I find myself thinking about it.
My first instinct is that “doing well” equals “feeling good.” The light is green, I’m going. But this kind of happiness is rather fickle in my world. It reminds me of roulette, where every morning I place a bet on whether the day will turn out better or worse. Daily gambling.
Over the long term, a good life might instead come down to a couple of questions: Am I doing what I want to do? And am I with the people I want to be with? It may sound obvious, but I’d rather not even count how easily I end up in jobs or relationships that feel foreign to me.
Putting all the pieces of life together correctly – in the way I need and want – once again feels like a gamble. So I wish everyone the best of luck at the table.
Today is Sophie’s and my anniversary. Exactly one year ago, we went on our first date. Then we jumped headfirst into a car and started travelling and living together. With a complete stranger, 24/7, inside a tiny car, with no possibility of escape. The Ministry of Health warns: life is a gamble.
Anyone who likes coffee will probably understand my next metaphor. Our relationship reminds me of an espresso. Extracted quickly… and under pressure. With a strong, intense flavour.
It feels to me as though we’ve been doing this together for years. Sometimes it’s hard work, but I’ve never been in doubt about it. With this woman, I “feel good.” This is the woman I want to be with.
I love you, Sophie. Thank you for playing this crazy game with me.Read more
